What’s a Tomte? #christmaslights #holidaytraditions #giveaways

Come join me and several other authors as we talk about the holidays, traditions and have a huge giveaway. Read to the bottom to see all the goodies and how to enter. Today’s guests are RJ Scott and V.L. Locey

Vix- Before we get gabbing as we do we’d like to thank Cathy for having us here today. RJ and I are HUGE fans of Christmas so we’re tickled red and green to be stopping by to chat about our most favorite time of the year.

RJ- I see what you did there… red and green… I  like that… I love the buildup to Christmas, and for me it starts on Bonfire Night (which for those non-uk people here is Fireworks Night, or Guy Fawkes Night) and it’s a night where to me winter begins properly and when the nights are cold and there is frost when we wake up. Our tree is going up this Saturday (7th) What about you Vix?

Vix- For me the holiday officially begins on Thanksgiving Day when I see Santa in New York. As a kid I always loved watching the Macy’s parade and always got super excited to see Santa arrive! Once The Big Guy is in Manhattan I know I can start decorating. I just put my tree up the other day, a small one as we live in a teensy-tiny house, and my little collection of tomte’s that sit around bringing the house and farm good luck.

RJ – Mum and Dad used to take me to London Selfridges to see Santa when I was super little, but then as I got older and my sister was born (5 years after I was) the guy we visited was always in some fake hut/shed thing and had a weird ass beard that I had to get used to! At least by the time my kids were interested in Santa (Briony at least!) Santa-people made an effort and it was always in some kind of Disney castle – a small one in case you imagined I lived near a Disney Castle!

RJ: As an aside, Vix, what is a Tomte?

Vix-They’re little Scandanaivin/Swedish gnomes that were believed to be guardians of home and farm.

RJ: looks at you thoughtfully, you little person you…. Are you a gnome?

Vix- Well, I have been called such on occasion. Frequent chin waxing keeps the long white beard under control.

RJ – snorts tea at screen, then blinks innocently…  back to the post in hand… so… crepe paper always brings back memories from childhood christmases. A couple of days before Christmas mum and dad would remove all the ornaments and so on from our large sideboard and then would put down swathes of this soft crinkly paper in all different colours. Then on top of that would go Christmas nuts and sweets and some decorations. This to a young RJ was Christmas heaven! I wonder if it was the crepe paper, or the sweets that got me most excited???

Vix – Knowing you as I do it’s probably 70/30 in favor of the sweets.

RJ – ha bloody ha… We also had this snowman that at one time had been filled (like a pinata) with goodies, but had become a sad and empty snowman, which sat in our window, and then we’d put up the tree and the magical bit was the lights – always the lights – which were Disney princess carriages and lanterns… so cool.

Vix – I’ve always loved the lights as well, especially the colored ones. For some reason nothing says Christmas to me like bright lights filled with color and cheer. Speaking of Christmas lights (I am a master of the subtle segue) Rj and I have some bookish news to share!

RJ – I see what you did there with your subtle reference to Christmas lights… because… drum roll… take it Vickster…

Vix – My delightful coauthor and I have a special holiday surprise for our readers. Today is release day for Christmas Lights, An Owatonna U Christmas Novella starring Ryker and Jacob with special appearances from the other stars of our OU books – Scott, Layne, Benoit, and Ethan! You can grab your copy at the retailers listed below. Thanks once more to Cathy for having us over. Happy Holidays all!

RJ – I hope everyone reading this has a wonderful time over the next few weeks – and I look forward to writing a million more words with my buddy The Vickster (™) – Happy Holidays!

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS (An Owatonna U Christmas Novella)

Under the Christmas lights strung outside a snowy Minnesota cabin, Ryker and Jacob face a future where nothing will be the same again.

Fortunate timing means that Ryker and Jacob can spend a few days together over Christmas in a cabin on the family farm. What’s better is that Scott and Ben are coming as well, with Hayne and Ethan in tow. Ryker can’t imagine a better way to spend time with the man he loves, and the friends he misses, and somehow he knows that this Christmas will be the best one ever. Hockey on a frozen pond, kisses under Christmas lights, and sharing time with Jacob are the best gifts he could ever receive.

Long distance relationships are brutal, Jacob can attest to that fact. So, when Ryker gets a few days off over the Raptors’ Christmas break, the hard-working Minnesota farmer is beyond thrilled. When they find out that their buddies from Owatonna U. are making the trip as well, the holidays are looking to be just about perfect. Jacob has a question for Ryker burning in his heart, and he isn’t asking for much—just a few fun-filled days with old friends and a yes from the man of his dreams.
