Cat: Today our guest is Tara Lain. Hello Tara. Are you ready for Christmas?
Hi Cat. Thank you for inviting me to the party!! I have my holiday decorating done because we gone snowed in over Thanksgiving and happened to have all the decoration boxes handy. Hey, what else could we do? LOL. I’ve attached a photo of the tree. As you can see, in my decorating scheme, less is never more! Since we now live a distance from the family and friends we buy presents for, Amazon is my friend. I still have some toys and gifts to buy. Plus, I have many words to write before the holidays.
This will be my second Christmas in our new hometown of Ashland, Oregon, but I’ve spent Christmas in some exotic places. When I was a small child, I live in Vienna, Austria. There they have the old European tradition of Krampus who is the scary demon/goat companion of Saint Nicholas. When I was a little kid, they weren’t low-key about this tradition. Saint Nicholas and Krampus went door to door! I remember so well hiding behind my mother when she answered the door and there stood Krampus asking if there were any bad children living there? No, no, she assured him so I didn’t get one of the switches he carried in his pack. Instead, Saint Nicholas gave me two decorated cookie – one that looked like the saint and one of Krampus. But when the moment came that I wanted to share my cookies with my best friend, guess who kept Krampus and gave Saint Nicholas to him? Yep, the villain is always the most interesting character! LOL.
Before I share my holiday release, I want to tell you about a special event coming up in just a few days. My new release, THE FAIRY SHOP, is my 50th published book, and I’m celebrating with a Facebook party in my Reader Group, HEA, Magic and Beautiful Boys. The party is on December 7th from 9 to 5:30 EST and will include posts, books, stories and prizes from 15 of your favorite authors. Come chat live if you can, or stop by over 7th, 8th or 9th to reply on the prize posts. Here is the Link to the Group – https://www.facebook.com/groups/TaraLainsHEAMagicAndBeautifulBoys/
Now, about that new book —
Title: The Fairy Shop
Series: stand alone
Author: Tara Lain
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
Genre: MM contemporary
Heat Rating: 3
Blurb When Nate Hawthorne meets Asher Dane, the huge, tattooed hunk is the personification of Nate’s dreams. But Nate knows there’s no future, because Asher is also the personification of his beloved five-year-old daughter Delly’s nightmares. She’s frightened of big men. Things turn around for both of them, however, when Delly goes Christmas shopping at the Fairy Shop and begins her quest for a wand that will make her brave. Neither of them guesses that the Fairy Shop will be the source of far more than Delly’s courage. On Christmas Eve, under the influence of a very unusual fairy, Nate’s life will change forever.
How about a little more?
Here’s a short excerpt —
The bartender walked away, and Asher picked up his glass and held it out to Nate. Nate grabbed his and clinked against Asher’s. Then like some kind of Disney movie with dogs, they stared in each other’s eyes as they both sipped. Disney for sure, because Asher drank, then licked the rim of his glass quickly with a pink tongue that sent Nate straight to Fantasyland.
Asher smiled. “Shall I be prosaic and ask what you do?”
Nate snorted. “Excuse me, but I haven’t heard that word in a sentence very often.” He didn’t add he’d never expect it from a guy who could clearly star in The Fast and the Furious.
Asher leaned in. “It’s fun to be unexpected.”
“Well sadly, my profession is kind of prosaic. I’m an admissions administrator at the college. You?”
“I build things. I’ll bet it’s fun getting to help kids get into college.”
Nate’s turn to smile. “You know, it actually is fun. Not many people think of that. They hear administrator and assume it’s boring.”
“There’s that saying about assuming.”
“Asses. You. Me?”
The bartender brought a plate of several kinds of cheese plus fruit and crackers.
Nate said, “Yum.”
“It sounded good with champagne.” Asher took a strawberry from the plate and carefully dropped it in Nate’s glass. “Cheers.”
Okay, a romantic alpha male was too much for a heart to bear. “So you build—”
“Have you lived in Ashland long?”
“Uh, not in the city of Ashland, but I’ve lived in the area most of my life. I bought a house in Ashland two years ago. Do you live in the city?”
“Yes, just a few blocks from here.”
Nate chewed a grape and nodded. “That makes sense. I thought I saw you walking past a store I was in earlier today.”
“You noticed?” Asher flashed the dimples again.
“Oh yeah.” Nate smirked. “In fact, I embarrassed myself by running out the door and trying to catch you, but you vanished. If it was you.”
Asher slid his long fingers across Nate’s forearm where it lay on the bar. “You caught me now.”
Damn, it was getting harder to breathe, partly because his jeans were too tight.
Asher said softly, “I could ask for the rest of our cheese to go and I could walk you home and—”
Nate’s eyes widened. “Uh, no. I-I have a kid. A kid who’s very nervous around, uh, strangers.” There, that probably queered the deal, or maybe unqueered the deal.
Instead of frowning, which Nate expected, Asher smiled. “Revise. I could ask for the cheese to go and walk you to my home.”
Oh. My. God. Nate could feel his mouth hanging open.
Asher said, “I know this is pretty precipitous. Feel free to say no.”
He cocked his head. “Sudden. Unconsidered.”
“I know what it means.”
“But do you do it?” Both dimples flashed this time.
“I can’t be late. My kid.” Nate could barely get the words out.
Asher whispered, “It doesn’t necessarily have to take long.”
Oh dear God, he could come sitting here. “Yes.”
“I said yes.” The grin made Asher’s eyes sparkle.
Nate’s words quoting James Joyce came out on a sigh. “I will, yes.”

Meet Tara Lain
Tara Lain believes in happy
ever afters – and magic. Same thing. In fact, she says, she doesn’t believe,
she knows. Tara shares this passion in her stories that star her unique,
