Cat: Hello Katherine, tell us about a favorite trick you pulled.
Katherine: I’m not fond of tricks, either as the victim or pranker. The most fun thing I ever did for Halloween was learn the Thriller dance and participate with thousands of other dancers around the world in a world record attempt. Everyone dressed up as zombies and had a great time. I went to St. Petersburg, Florida, but there were sites around the U.S. and in many other countries that participated.

Cat: That sounds like fun! I loved the thriller dance! What are your top 5-6 favorite things about Halloween?
Katherine: Movie: Beetlejuice (Cat nods)
Book: The Shining (nods again)
Food: Candy!
Drink: Wine (but that’s every day)
Activity: Handing out candy. Sadly, we don’t get Trick or Treaters where we live.
I’m part of a clogging group that puts on shows for nursing home residents. Halloween songs like Haunted House and Monster Mash are my favorites to dance to.
Cat: Oh Cool! I love Halloween and making treats for the kids or themed dinners. Do you have a favorite craft or recipe?
Katherine: No, I’m not crafty and never bothered to cook for Halloween. After all, everyone is too full from eating candy.

Meet Katherine:
Katherine Smits grew up wanting to be a mermaid but discovered to her dismay this was not a viable career choice. Instead, she became a clinical social worker and helped veterans and their families.
Now she brings social work training and experience to her stories of mermaids, mages and magical creatures. Within the context of fantasy and romance, her novels explore real-life issues of self-acceptance, body image, relationship dynamics, and fears and phobias. Mystery, suspense, and a little sex add spice to her books.
She is the author of four paranormal romances.
Katherine and her husband divide their time between Florida and West Virginia. Their children and granddaughters live in Virginia.
Besides writing, Katherine is a mom, Mimi, dressage rider, and clog dancer.
