Walking into Balloon Walls #tricks #Werewolves #giveaway #Witches #Mages #LGBTQ

Do you like sexy vampires or hot weres? What about gorgeous ghosts, witches, warlocks, mages or dragons?

This month we are going to party all month long with some of your favorite authors or new to you ones. We will have tricks and treats galore so come join us every Saturday and Sunday in October!

Today’s guest is Tara Lain. Tara writes bestselling romances, both paranormal and contemporary, with werewolves, witches, mages and more.

Hello Tara, tell us about a favorite trick you pulled on someone.

Tara: Actually, Cathy, I’m not a super tricky person, but I have a friend who is Loki personified and he’s played some serious tricks on me. One of my faves happened years ago when I was first married. My husband and I were giving yoga retreats and classes and we had hundreds of student. This friend was one of them. We gave a retreat in the mountains all weekend and drove back to southern California to our house Sunday afternoon where we went in for a desperately needed nap.

Our students pretty much had free run of our house and unbeknownst to us, as a bunch of them were driving together back from the retreat, they stopped at a gas station that was giving away a huge bunch of commercial helium balloons. These are serious balloons, guys, and almost impossible to pop. While my hubby and I were sleeping peacefully, these students led by my Loki friend, sneaked in and crammed the long hall from our bedroom to the living room with these balloons. Floor to ceiling, solid balloons! Then they left!

We woke up and headed toward the kitchen for dinner – uhhhhhh! We opened the bedroom door to a solid thick rubber. Pushing against it did nothing. No luck trying to pop them. Finally, I got on my belly on the floor and managed to slither under them to the living room where I began pulling them out, one-by-one. While we might have strangled someone that night because we were hungry, we remember it as one of the best and most original practical jokes ever!

Cat: Oh my! I bet that was a big surprise but kinda cute too LOL. Probably not when you are tired and hungry. What are your favorite things about Halloween?

Tara: We live at the top of a very steep hill on a private street, so we don’t get any trick-or-treaters and I miss them. But I love –

  • The house in downtown Ashland with huge, moving spiders on the roof.
  • The Ashland costume parade through all of downtown and how the businesses all stand outside and give candy to the kids.
  • The return to regular time that gives me back a tiny bit more light in the morning.
  • Getting to put my dog in her dragon costume.

Movie:

Asking me about movies is dangerous because I love them! I have two favorite movie lists 1) Best movies 2) favorite movies. Sometimes these movies are on both lists, but I’ll just name a few representative films on each list –

Best movies— (also faves)

  • Pulp Fiction
  • Kill Bill (Part 2)
  • Michael Clayton
  • Junebug

Favorite Movies – (notice most are romcoms or at least comedies)

  • Love, Actually
  • Bull Durham
  • Groundhog Day
  • Moonstruck

Books: (on my list, lots are plays and there are far too many to name. Here are a few.)

  • The Importance of Being Earnest
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • A Streetcar Named Desire
  • Dune
  • A Handmaid’s Tale

Food: I’m not a big foodie. I like fairly plain food, although I adore cheese and other dairy. You can get me out to eat –

  • Grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli
  • Cheesy broccoli chicken

Drink: A short list of drinks I love –

  • English Breakfast tea lattes with vanilla (I walk miles in the morning to get one)
  • Champagne
  • water

Activity: I’m a big exerciser.

  • Walking 3-4 miles through Ashland in the fresh air in the morning to get my tea
  • Going to the gym to get my upper body workout
  • Going to plays! In Ashland, we see 15 or more plays a year
  • Jigsaw puzzles

I love Halloween and making treats for the kids or themed dinners do you have a favorite craft or recipe?

I used to do a lot of collage art and loved it, but it’s time-consuming and my writing took over, so collage went away. I recently got an Instant Pot and am loving making recipes in it. I’m not a big cook and don’t have much time, so the Instant Pot is perfect. Since I don’t eat beef or pork, most of my recipes are made with chicken. The cheesy broccoli chicken I mentioned above is a fave. It’s a chicken risotto you can make in under an hour. Amazing!

What book have you come to talk about today?

I thought about this a lot since I have a few paranormal series, but in honor of Halloween, I want to feature my most recent paranormal romance, HIDDEN POWERS.

Some people have called HIDDEN POWERS “Harry Potter meets Justice League”. It’s a unique story for me featuring an unlikely group of young friends who find themselves having to save the work while figuring out what they want to be when they grow up.

Title:  HIDDEN POWERS

Now eighteen, Jazz meets his idol, the social activist Lysandra Mason, and her breathtaking nephew, Dash Mercury. When Dash is around, even stranger things start to happen, including Jazz falling hopelessly in lust. Not only is Jazz having visions, making people disappear, and somehow turning invisible, but somebody’s following him and threatening to reveal his pack’s secrets to the world.

Together with Dash and Jazz’s equally amazing friends—Carla, BeBop, Khadija, and Fatima—they discover the danger is even more lethal than they thought, and Jazz’s weirdness may save all their lives.

Meet Tara

Tara Lain believes in happy ever afters – and magic. Same thing. In fact, she says, she doesn’t believe, she knows. Tara shares this passion in her stories that star her unique, charismatic heroes and adventurous heroines. Quarterbacks and cops, werewolves and witches, blue collar or billionaires, Tara’s characters, readers say, love deeply, resolve seemingly insurmountable differences, and ultimately live their lives authentically. After many years living in southern California, Tara, her soulmate honey and her soulmate dog decided they wanted less cars and more trees, prompting a move to Ashland, Oregon where Tara’s creating new stories and loving living in a small town with big culture. Likely a Gryffindor or maybe a Ravensclaw but possessed of Parseltongue, Tara loves animals of all kinds, diversity, open minds, coconut crunch ice cream from Zoeys, and her readers. She also loves to hear from you.

  1. Living on the top of a very steep hill or in a senior community doesn’t bring any trick or treat-ers

  2. Yay, Tara! My favorite part of October is the start of the new hockey season. I’d prefer m/m if I win.
