Here Comes the Brides #bridalmonth #weddings #romance @

Wow! Can you believe the year is half over? This month I thought for our Sunday Spotlights I would feature some books with the theme of Brides or weddings. This week I am starting off with a favorite author of mine and a sweet friend, Rachelle Ayala. I asked her to share about her new bride series and inspiration. Hello Rachelle.

Beach weddings are scenic and romantic, with the sun, sand, and the calming swish of waves, what could possibly go wrong? Nothing, hopefully, but preparation is the key. Since a beach wedding is outdoors, weather can offer up a few surprises. Wind can blow away banners and decorations, and too much sun can broil your skin. A sudden downpour is an obvious hazard, but so is blowing sand and even the appearance of a flock of seagulls overhead. Speaking of sand, beware of sand fleas and entanglements of seaweed, as well as trash and debris. Having your coordinator clean up and level the area in advance is key. Also, make sure to warn your guests to wear appropriate shoes. You may need to provide flip-flops for those who show up in stilettos. Wheelchair access will also be an issue. If possible, rent a private beach so your coordinator can set up ahead of time with the appropriate ramps and planks. Which brings me to other people who can be rowdy, rude, and disrespectful. These days, everyone has a cell phone camera and they won’t hesitate to point it at you and your wedding party, hoping to capture an embarrassing moment. People are not as respectful as in the old days, and having random strangers stroll through your wedding can ruin the moment. Dogs barking, children screaming, and adults making loud comments can also be distracting.

But whatever happens, the most memorable moments are oftentimes the very ones where things didn’t go as planned. Look what happened to Jane Bonet, the heroine of Bride for Breakfast. She plans a wedding with one groom and it’s hijacked by the other groom, the handyman who helped her fix up her island Bed and Breakfast. Now that, my friends, is unforgettable romance.

Title: Bride for Breakfast

Jane Bonet is off to the Caribbean to realize her dream of owning a bed and breakfast. With family tales of pirates and hidden treasure, she is certain this is the opportunity of a lifetime. That she will need to have the renovations finished in time for her wedding doesn’t dampen her spirits. Her fiancé has the money to make things happen, and she has the determination.

Elio Grande is the premier handyman on the isle. Growing up on the island, he has heard all the pirate tales. Handsome, hard-working and kind, he has won the hearts of the island but not the heart of a special woman. With a tragedy in his past, he thought a promise would change his luck.

Ile d’Amour is the ideal setting for a romantic B&B with secluded beaches, hot nights and the magic that draws lovers together. Join Jane, Elio, a feral Persian cat, along with pirate tales and tragic curses, on a wedding adventure to remember, where Jane must choose between love and gold or risk leaving the island empty handed and empty hearted.

For another seaside read, please look for Seashells & Mistletoe, where a Christmas cruise turns into a war of pranks between a jilted bride and a jaded gigolo.

  1. I attended my nephew’s beach wedding in Santa Barbara a couple years. The wind was so strong it made hearing difficult, and chairs were blowing over. Yes, weather can interfere.

Speaking of weddings, today is my aunt and uncle’s 74th wedding anniversary. 74 years? That’s considerably longer than I’ve been alive, and I’m an old fart.

  2. My son and daughter-in-law had a lovely beach wedding. They leave a good feeling and great memories. Seashells and Mistletoe sounds like a refreshing summer read! Best of luck to Rachelle.
