In The Spotlight: Michal Scott~Better To Marry Than To Burn #newrelease #holidays #Kwanzaa #Christmas

Welcoeto In The Spotlight. Today we have Michal Scott here to tell us about celebrating Kwanzaa and her new release Better To Marry Than To Burn. Hi Michal.

When the Advent/Christmas season is a staple of your job, stress and performance expectations detract from that holiday’s specialness. Being a minister I found myself agreeing when the duck in the movie Babe shouted, “Christmas is carnage.” The reason for the season – the love and sacrifice embodied by the birth of Jesus – were overwhelmed by my sense of duty and my ministerial duties. I think this is why I’m able to have fun and be more reflective during Kwanzaa. Professor Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 to help African-Americans reconnect to their African heritage. It begins on December 26 and goes to January 1. I have created a personal reflection ritual that I practice on each of Kwanzaa’s seven days. Instead of lighting candles on a Kwanzaa kinara, I place a symbol dedicated to that day’s Ngozu Saba on my Kwanzaa tree, review the principle’s definition, read a related scripture then reflect upon questions developed by the American Bible Society. The first day’s principle is always Umoja (unity). The reflection question challenges me to consider how we’re all made one by God’s spirit and what I can do to improve how I can work and live with others. By day seven – when the principle for the day is Imani (faith) – I’m ready to enter a new year with faith, hope and love. Personal rituals have given me a sense of self and pride that gets me through trying times. I hope that sense of self and pride comes through in the heroines I write as they search for love and belonging.

Genre: Romance

Heat: Erotic

Blurb: Wife Wanted: Marital relations as necessary. Love not required nor sought…

A bridal lottery seems the height of foolishness to ex-slave Caesar King, but his refusal to participate in the town council’s scheme places him in a bind. He has to get married to avoid paying a high residence fine or leave the Texas territory. After losing his wife in childbirth, Caesar isn’t ready for romance. A woman looking for a fresh start without any emotional strings is what he needs.

Queen Esther Payne, a freeborn black from Philadelphia, has been threatened by her family for her forward-thinking, independent ways. Her family insists she marry. Her escape comes in the form of an ad. If she must marry, it will be on her terms. But her first meeting with the sinfully hot farmer proves an exciting tussle of wills that stirs her physically, intellectually, and emotionally.

In the battle of sexual one-upmanship that ensues, both Caesar and Queen discover surrender can be as fulfilling as triumph.
