#foodiefriday~~ #Popcorn

I love popcorn. There is nothing better than a good movie and popcorn. Nowadays going to the movies is very expensive. Especially if you have kids. I have three grandkids that live next door and two that are over frequently. No way I can take that many to the theater ( besides we don’t have a theater in town, and I don’t have a bus to take them to the nearest one that is 20 miles away.)

Renting movies is an excellent alternative. You can rent from the Redbox or if you have Netflix you have tons of movies with a click of a button.

I happen to have a movie house popcorn machine. My husband uses to have a video store, and he kept the popcorn machine. We use it a lot.  I keep a couple of those shake on seasonings for them to add to their bowls, but sometimes

I like flavored popcorn. Like caramel corn.  I found these recipes on Pinterest and absolutely love them.

My hubby buys me these bags of peanut butter, chocolate, and a caramel fudge popcorn at the tractor supply store. They are quite expensive, so I looked for some homemade versions that were less expensive and of course made more.

Carmel corn is simple.

Pop 8-10 cups of popcorn. ( air popping is a healthier option or you can always pop in a pan on the stove if you can’t afford the other equipment. Or use prepackaged bags and microwave.

You will need for the caramel topping

2 sticks butter

1/2c corn syrup

2 cup brown sugar

1 t baking soda

Bring the first three ingredients to a rolling boil. Add baking soda, pour immediately over popcorn ( I like my corn salted first.) let cool well before serving.

Optional: melt half a bag of chocolate chips. Spread caramel corn onto a couple of baking sheets in a thin layer( I cover with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray first.)  drizzle the melted chocolate over and bake at 350 for ten minutes. ( let cool before serving) Makes 8 – 10 1 cup servings.)

You can add some cashews or peanuts before baking  for another delicious option.

Peanut butter popcorn

Pop 8-10 cups of popcorn put into a large bowl ( I don’t salt this one)

1 stick of butter

1/12 cups brown sugar

1 bag large marshmallows

1 cup of peanut butter ( I usually use creamy, but you can use the crunchy)

In a large glass, microwavable bowl, melt butter and brown sugar. Add marshmallows cook in one-minute intervals, stirring after each until melted. Add peanut butter and mix well until creamy. Pour over popcorn and toss or stir with a large wooden spoon.

Prepare enough cookie sheets to spread corn in one layer with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.  Bake peanut butter corn in 325  ( I have to do 350 my oven doesn’t go lower)  for 10 minutes. Let cool.  Makes 8-10 1 cup servings. ( again you can melt some chocolate and drizzle over this before baking.Yummy)

Here is my Pinterest page with lots of delicious links to recipes some even healthier versions.

Now I think it’s time to pop in a movie and enjoy!

Do you like flavored popcorn? What is your favorite? Have you tried any exotic ones?

  1. My favorite is either traditional butter and salt, or kettle corn drizzled with chocolate, with almonds. Caramel corn is one of my favorites as well. My kids prefer cheddar popcorn.
