Books

Love is Heartless (Love Can’t Series #2) by Kim Fielding Dreamspinner Press

4 Meows

254 pages MM Contemporary, PoliceProcedural, Mystery Suspense

Nevin Ng was raised in the foster system. He is foul-mouthed, bitter and a one night stand guy. He doesn’t do relationships. Heck, he doesn’t do monogamy. He is a police detective in the Aged division and also works with Manuel at Bright Hope a community for LGBTQ senior citizens.

Colin works for his father in land development. They buy old houses, tear them down, build townhouses to sell. They have a few rental homes that Colin takes care of. One of his tenants calls him to work on her plumbing, and he finds her beat nearly to death. He meets Detective Ng and sparks fly.

I enjoyed this story and the slow build between the two men. I liked Nevin’s snark and his nicknames for Colin and the internal struggle in Nevin.

Afraid to Fly (Anchor Point #2) by L.A. Witt RipTide Publishing

Meows 4  Purss 4 (sexy, sensual and hot)

Genre: Contemporary M/M,  military, two silver foxes, workplace romance. Pages 347

This is a book two of a series but stands alone fine. I think Anchor point may be what ties it into a series. I have not read the first ( but added to my to Read list) and really enjoyed the book.

The two main characters are both in their Forties. Both Military men with PTSD and Travis also have a disabling injury. Both men are now confined to desk work.

Clint comes out at the Navy Ball in a big way and also dumps his boyfriend after because he can’t be around that much drinking. He finds out that Travis is also Bisexual and they hit it off. I guess you could add friends to lovers in the category.  I found the story good, the romance good and loved the dealing with trauma. In the beginning, it was a bit slow, and no real action happens. It’s just a good romance of two men dealing with a lot, and life.

Audio: Beneath the Stain Amy Lane  Nick J Russo  Audible

Rock band books aren’t my favorite but I heard so much about this I jumped at the chance to review it. Man am I glad I did. There is a lot of angst, but It’s worth it.

I think Nick J Russo brought so much passion to this story that you wouldn’t experience on your own. He didn’t just read the book. He became the characters. Each had their own voice, and the passion between Trav and Mackey was unfathomable. Nick made those love scenes with every breath, moan and whisper. He gave me shivers.

Movie: I haven’t felt well, so there wasn’t many movies or TV this week.  We did watch a movie last night called  Rampage President Down.

I’ll keep my lips zipped on this one. It was like looking at a train wreck…I wanted to walk away but was stuck.  I think I needed eye-bleach after. There was lots of violence.

I hope you enjoyed my week in review. I hope you find some good books to read an audio or movie. If you had a favorite this week, you would like to share, post in comments. I am always looking for good entertainment! See ya Next week!

Service with a Smirk by Ariel Tachna  Dreamspinner Press

200 pages contemporary

4 meows 2 purrs

I like this book on many levels. First of all The May.December (older man?Younger man) trope is one of my all time favorites.  I also love broken men and Pascal is so sad. I rooted for him to find love again. I liked that they did not rush into anything and that each man at one time or other tried to move the relationship on. I also liked that Mathias, even though he was small and twinkish was unyielding, probably the stronger of the two. And the kicker was the writer ladies that were friends of Pascals.  Not to forget I love picturesque settings, and this is in Canada with a very French feeling.

Patchwork Paradise is such a sad but sweet story.  I cried so much, not all sad. There is twist after twist all the way to the end. It is definitely not predictable! I loved when Oliver changed Thomas baby first diaper. I loved Craig’s cooing voice when he did all the baby talk.

or the first sex scene with Thomas and Oliver. It was all really hot…then the baby cried. I loved it when Oliver told Thomas to go get the baby, he was going to get ice packs for his blue balls.

We watched Deep Water Horizon this week.

It was Ok. There was a lot of action and seeing something based on reality was interesting. Mark Wahlberg starring in it didn’t hurt LOL

Love’s Tethered Heart by C. L. Etta  Dreamspinner Press

 M/M contemporary  5 Meows  1 Purr

This is a bittersweet story. It is about a man (Mico) that barely survived a gay bashing. He is hooked up to a ventilator, feeding tube and catheter. It is also a story of a family sticking together and caring for the man instead of putting him in a skilled care facility.  Danny is a journalist that finds love in a very unlikely place.

I gave it one purr because though it’s not sexual there is a very sensual scene.

I applaud for dealing with such a sensitive story and making it so beautiful and romantic. Though someone is disabled, they are still very human and have needs. BRAVO!

Block and Strike  Kelly Jensen  Published by Dreamspinner Press  M/M Contemporary

 4 meows  2 Purrs

I have only read a couple Kelly Jensen books, but she is heading right up there on my auto-buy too.  This story does have some violence and is very angsty , But I absolutely loved it.

Max is found on Jake’s doorway beaten almost to death. Jake takes him to the hospital. Jake has his secrets as well.  Block and strike is a lovely story of coming out, life and learning to trust and love.

This one is a short story about time travel. Not usually my cup of tea but it was cute. There is a robot bear that makes it all worth reading. It is a setup  I think for a series and I am intrigued.

Smoke and Mirrors by Charlie Cochet  Thirds book 7  narrated by Mark Westfield  10 hrs  42 minutes Audible

M/M, Genres Mystery/Suspense / Science Fiction / Urban Fantasy / Werewolves/Shapeshifters

This is book 7 of the series and the best yet. That’s saying a lot as each book was fantastic. If you’re looking for an excellent series whether to read or listen to I highly recommend this.

Smoke and Mirrors does start where the last story ended with Dex being kidnapped and tortured. There are many emotional moments in this story. I laughed and cried more in this than the others and again that’s saying a lot. There are many shocking twists, several tear-jerking moments, of course, lots fo hot man-sex and wow what an ending.

Friday night (Dec 30) we watched Vikings. All his Angels.  Originally aired 12/28.

I hate to give such a violent story 5 meows, but I have to.  What Radnor’s courage and strength to all the kings did to him was astounding. I think this was probably aired originally earlier in the week we DVR tv shows a lot to get out of the commercials.

Cat’s meow ~Nothing Special V~ A.E.Via~#rafflecoptergiveaway

A Little Message from A.E. Via.

I’m back with a new release from my best-selling MM series, Nothing Special. I must say it was a blast writing these guys after so long. People have asked why it took a while to get this next installment out and I can only say because I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue with the series. It took a lot of thought – but to my God and Day lovers – I’ve decided to commit to at least two more books in this series. I hope you like this one. Some have classified Nothing Special V as my love letter to my fans – I adored that compliment because it’s accurate. I wanted to give you all a little of everything and every character from the previous books. A glimpse of everyone’s life and what’s been going on with them. I have several POVs in this installment, but not in a confusing way. I love to give the reader a full connection, a peek into other character’s head, and I believe the fans of this series appreciate that. As an avid romance reader myself, it’s one of my pet peeves to only get one point of view in a romance novel. I feel like there’s so much missing when I can’t connect with the other MC. Anyhoo… this isn’t about my likes. It’s about you. So I’ll shut up and let you read the blurb. If you like what you see, pick this one up. Don’t forget to let me know what you think.

The boys are back and fiercer than ever!

“We were a unit tonight, moving as one. Even apart, we are deadly, but when combined – we are f**kin’ unstoppable.” ~~ God ~~

Atlanta’s notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine, Edwin Steele – who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department – to join the team. God and Day weren’t recruiting. They have a lot on their plates, like the fact they’re supposed to be getting married soon. They don’t have the time or the patience to integrate a decorated war hero with a slight chip on his shoulder into their well-oiled machine.

A hothead that’s uncontrollable and terrible with authority… but wasn’t that their team motto?

Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn’t respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle – City Councilman, Rasmus Steele – shows him a video of God’s team in action, he knows right away; it’s where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.

Steele pointed to the driver, a behemoth of a man wielding those massive firearms like a true beast… like a soldier. “And him. Who the hell is he?”

“That’s your new boss. Lieutenant Cashel Godfrey… they call him… God.”

Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God’s technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech,” he’s willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.

Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there’s no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to surprise him… surprise all of them.

This story is a part of a series but can stand alone. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has a HEA. There are no multiple pairings in this novel.

Here  is a little more of Nothing Special V

“Finish,” Steele whispered gravely. “What’s not all?”

“It’s not important.” Both their voices were low as if there were someone else around to hear.

“I didn’t ask if it was important.”

“This is my job and I do what I’m required.”

“But….”

“There’s no but. It’s nothing. I’m happy where I am.” Tech looked down at his wrist, which was still in Steele’s grasp, but instead of just holding it, Steele was rubbing his thumb across his pulse, carefully watching him. Tech exhaled slowly. He could feel himself vibrating with hunger for this man. He wished he could stop it. All he could do was pretend he wasn’t fazed by it all. By Steele’s magnificence. Yes, he was just a man. An amazing man who wasn’t afraid to risk his life for a stranger. Who fought for something bigger than himself. That meant something to Tech… it meant a lot. Steele was the exact type of man, soldier, like the ones that’d tried to save his brother in a war he should’ve never been in. Even though that black ops team wasn’t able to save his brother’s whole squadron, they’d saved a lot of them. Steele was that type of man, and it made Tech feel empowered just being near him. Not wanting Steele to see his infatuation, he tried to appear casual.

“You are lying to me.” Steele stood up and crowded into Tech’s smaller frame, moving him back against the cool brick wall. Trapping him there, Steele’s chest persistent against his own. So close together, Tech could feel the solid planes there. Could smell the scent of the masculine soap Steele washed with this morning. He held the back of Tech’s neck in one hand and pressed the back of his other hand up under his chin, just to the left of his Adam’s apple. Two fingers pushed against the pulse now throbbing just beneath the tender skin. Steele’s touch burned in a delicious way. His head was lowered, that raspy stubble scraping against Tech’s smooth temple, his intense eyes closed in deep concentration while Steele broke apart the lie Tech was trying so desperately to construct.

“What’s not all, Tech?” Steele spoke. His mouth moving against his temple, his voice coarse and smooth at the same time.

“I told you. Nothing. I misspoke.” Tech shook against Steele’s proximity, begging his lower body not to react. He felt the back of the two fingers push in deeper, forcing him to lift his head.

“You’re lying,” Steele hissed. He flipped his hand over and spread it out over Tech’s throat, those two fingers still pressed over his pulse while the others rested over his Adam’s apple. “The way I’m touching you right now. Is it turning you on?”

“What? No.” Tech laughed nervously, his hands lying limp by his side, unsure what to do with them.

He felt Steele’s lips curve up. Did he know Tech lied about that too?

MY REVIEW

5 Meows 5 purrs

As A.E. Stated in her opening in the post, this is written in multiple views and it is easy to follow. Each chapter or viewpoint is marked with the name of whose view it is in. We get more of God and Day and  Rux and Greene. We get lots of insight into their home life and a happy surprise with God and Day.  I think getting to see these sides of these four men it makes them more human and realistic, not just the bad boy cops they are. An added surprise was getting to see a little more Preston and his two men. I have to say I was extremely happy as I adored Preston. In case you don’t know who Preston is he started off the series in a Standalone book You Can See Me. This is where we meet day for the first time.

Tech (Shawn) was introduced a book or two ago and is techy behind the scenes man. In this book, Tech wants to be more and has been taking classes on his own to try to get in the field. We also get a new agent, Steele who fits in perfectly with Rux and Greene.  Though this book is a lot of romance and inside their home lives, there is some suspense and action as well. I will say I would have loved to have seen more of Shawn in the field and a bit more action.

I am super excited that there is another book on its way!

If you like police, special forces, Alpha male detectives, action, romance and some good old hot man-sex, you will like this.

I highly recommend this series. In case you haven’t read any of these books and are looking for a good series. You can find them on good reads here.

You can find the first four books here separately or in a set.

Here is the link to  You Can See Me with Prescott and his men and where we first meet Day.  This was the first AE Via book I ever read and one of my favorites.

Cat’s MeowReviews that Purr Changing on the Fly Charity Anthology

Cats meow reviews that purr

I’d like to thank Cathy for hosting us today as we celebrate the release of Changing on the Fly! This anthology is a special one for all the authors involved. We’re all LGBT allies and most of us pen M/M hockey romances. Being able to come together, write what we love, and be able to raise money for a charity that promotes inclusiveness in sports is a dream come true for us! I know that you’ll love every story in the collection. 100% of all royalties will be donated to our charity!

Here’s the blurb for my story, On Broadway. I’ve also added a playlist that I think fit Reilly and Rocket really well. I hope you get a good feel for the guys from the songs they’ve chosen to share with you. Thank you for visiting and for supporting gay athletes.

BLURB FOR ON BROADWAY

Money. Skill. Looks. Fame.

Riley Zeally, captain and star center for the New York Nightwings, has it all. You’d think his nights would be filled with wine, women, and song, but Riley isn’t what the world thinks he is. He’s a closeted gay man living a lonely, solitary life in the biggest city in the world. The lights of Broadway may shine brightly on him but they certainly don’t keep him warm at night.

Fate intercedes one blisteringly cold morning and tosses Riley into the path of a beautiful young man in shabby clothes and ancient skates who captivates the superstar. Then, just as unexpectedly as he appeared, the man of Riley’s dreams disappears, swallowed up by the city that never sleeps. In a city of millions, can two men from different worlds ever hope to find each other again?

The anthology will be available starting in October, 2016, for a limited time only.

It includes the following stories:

Even Strength by Cherylanne Corneille
Next Season by Avon Gale
Going Home by Heather Lire
On Broadway by V.L. Locey
The Brother and the Retired Player by Mary Smith
Take a Shot by Samantha Wayland

 Overall. My review.

I give it a 5. It’s for a good cause and the stories are all full of heart and soul. Each one showcases a character or characters dealing with life n a pro sport and being gay.  There is a little bit of everything  from no heat to scorching, second chances to new beginnings, and new romance, so I recommend you give this a go! especially if your a hockey fan!

V.L. Locey’s On Broadway:

“You’re about as far from being just a guy as I am from being able to play “Rocket Man” on harmonica.”

“Is that the song your mom named you after?” I fell back to the bed, feet dangling to the floor and hands clasped behind my head.

“Good guess.” He appeared behind me after a moment. I tipped my head back to look at him. His green eyes were darker now, smoky jade and hot with desire. “You’re really sexy in a Toby McGuire Spider-Man kind of way.”

“I don’t have any superpowers,” I replied as he leaned over and placed his hands on either side of my head.

“Not true,” Rocket whispered before covering my mouth with his. My eyes drifted shut as my fingers knotted up the bedding. His mouth was hot and wet, his tongue skilled, his taste a subtle blend of Korean buffet. “You’re Riley Zeally,” he murmured between nibbling kisses that made my heart pump faster, “the face of professional hockey.”

I reached up from the duvet to push my fingers into his hair. “I want you,” I panted between his short, maddening sweeps of my mouth.

My Review 5 meows

Riley is lonely and sees  a sexy young skater in a rink and is instantly drawn to him. He finds him and finds out Rocket is down on his luck and a prostitute.  Though he knows he shouldn’t he takes a chance on Rocket, risking his friendships and career on a hooker.

I absolutely fell in love with Rocket. I could see Riley’s desire and need for the man.  This is a very cute story with a very sexy unorthodox character. I hope to see more of Riley and Rocket in the future.

Samantha Wayland’s Take a Shot:

“There already is someone who loves to spend time with you, who loves hockey and your friends and their ridiculous pranks. Who gets that you have to travel and that you’re tired!”

Tim blinked, appearing utterly bewildered. “Who?”

“Me, you asshole! Me.”

Tim threw his hands in the air. “What about you?”

“I appreciate you exactly as you are. I love our life. Our friends. You. Even the super fucking irritating things, because apparently there is something wrong with me. I love that you can’t hide what you’re feeling, almost ever. And that you say what you’re thinking, even when I can’t do the same. I like living with you, a fucking neat-freak nudist, and working with you, and there’s never been a time, not once, that I was tired of being around you. You’re gorgeous and you’re kind and you’re the best person I know. So shut up about there not being someone who can appreciate everything about you. There already is. And unfortunately for you, it’s me.”

5 meows

I loved this story. I liked Tim   and his openess. It’s a great story.

Heather Lire’s Going Home

“What the fuck, man?” Blake growled at Dex.

“What?” he asked, innocently. Too innocently. “I was just making conversation with an old friend from high school. One who helped both of us graduate.”

If he’d known when he started this trip down memory lane that he’d be running into the person who’d had a staring roll in the epic disaster that had been his last night in town, he’d never have started it. Micah had also held a staring roll in every single one of his sexual fantasies back then as well.

“Fuck you, Dex.”

“Think about it like this…this is a new start for both of us. A chance to fix the things in our lives that we fucked up. Me with my career and you with Micah.”

5 Meows. I liked Micah and how he decided to make amends this is a perfect second chances story.

I liked Micah and how he decided to make amends this is a perfect second chances story.

Cherylanne Corneille’s Even Strength

He took a few laps around their end of the rink to loosen his legs. On his fourth pass around the net, he picked up a stray puck and carried it on his stick before shooting it into the net. Boone bumped his shoulder and nodded toward the glass as they rounded their end of the rink again.

What the hell? He glanced in the direction his teammate indicated. Two men around his age wearing New York’s jerseys held up a brightly colored sign that said simply, “Thank you, Nate.” He puzzled on the meaning until he made another lap. One of them also held a small rainbow flag.

5 Meows.

This is such an awesome story. I adored the rainbow laces and how  Nate managed to keep both his team and his relationship in tacked. I wanted much more of this story.

Mary Smith’s The Brother and the Retired Player

Our lips touch, and the spark is struck. He pulls me closer and grips my hips. I can feel his hardness already, and my dick twitches at the contact. Our kiss intensifies as our tongues touch. I hold him closer, and the light scruff of his pale beard tickles me. I never want to leave this spot, but finally, I pull back.

4 Meows.

This is a good story I did like all the characters but main issue was there were so many with such similar names it confused me.  Such as Keison, Keaton, Kian. It just made it a bit hard for me to keep up with which brother was doing what or was it the friend.  I did love the romance between Tim and Kian.

Avon Gale’s Next Season

Nick stopped as Sparrow went to get into his Escalade, which he’d somehow remote started the second they got out of the building. Nick drove a 2002 Ford Focus and was lucky if it started when the key was in the ignition.

“So, uh,” Nick said, not wanting to just walk off but still as uncertain as he’d been in the locker room about what to say. “See you in Philly, I guess.”

“Yeah,” Sparrow muttered, yanking the door to his luxury SUV open with too much force. “See you in Philly, kid.”

Nick managed to get his own car door open, grabbed his ice scraper, and turned the car on so he could blast the heat. He watched Sparrow drive away, leaving tire tracks in the snow.

4Meows.

I loved the story but it  came to such an abrupt stop and I wanted more more more!

She likes road trips, rock concerts, drinking Kentucky bourbon and yelling at hockey. She’s a displaced southerner living in a liberal midwestern college town, and she never gets tired of people and their stories — either real or the ones she makes up in her head.

Cherylanne Corneille

Cherylanne Corneille has been writing almost as long as she has loved the game of hockey, so it was inevitable that she would eventually combine two of her favorite pastimes into one hobby. She will watch almost any game but prefers to cheer on the Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Tyler Seguin.

When not writing or watching hockey, she enjoys running and has completed 18 half marathons.  She also loves Stars Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Captain America.

Cherylanne lives in Central Florida with her cat, who was almost called Puck or Hanifin but sometimes answers to the name Phasma.

Heather Lire

Heather has traveled all over the world, speaks several languages, collects romance books like they’re going out of style, and has multiple book boyfriends. Ok, she hasn’t been all over the world, except in her mind. She does however speak multiple languages and collect romance books. Her long-suffering husband and sons roll their eyes at all her book boyfriends. When she’s not busy on her next novel she can be found in her classroom where teaches one of those many languages, at one of her sons many sporting events or on twitter talking about what else, romance books.

Samantha Wayland

Samantha Wayland has three great loves in life; her family, writing books, and hockey. She is often found apologizing to the first for how much time and attention is taken up by the latter two, but they forgive her because they are awesome and she clearly doesn’t deserve them.

Sam lives with her family—of both the two and four-legged variety—outside of Boston. When she’s not locked away in her home office, she can generally be found tucked in the corner of the local Thai place with other socially-starved authors and an adult beverage. Her favorite things include mango martinis, tiny Chihuahuas with big attitude problems, and the Oxford comma.
