Don’t Mislead Me #MFRWauthor #bloghop #petpeeves

Welcome back to the MFRW 52 week blog hop challenge. It is week 22 and our topic is our biggest pet peeve in a book. This is harder than I thought it would be since I read so much. After much thought and deliberation I think most of mine spring from the blurb or pumped up reviews. #1 I hate reading a blurb, gettign all excited and the book delivers nothing the blurb promised. Don’t get me started on the cute blurbs that are just hyped up one liners, such as…A captivating story of love, hurt, romance  and mystery.  Ok, that’s all good but tell me a little more about what this book is about not a generalization. Tell me something about these particular characters and the plot. Make me want to pick this up and buy it. Now once I have it in my grubby little hands nothing irks me more than the story being completely something else than the blurb  suggested. If it says some mystery give me some mystery not one page of a quick rundown. If it promises romance give me some not one scene at the end.

I also don’t like  big words or names in a story. Keep it simple so I don’t have to stop every page and look up a word or try to sound out a name that not even in the dictionary. That kills the flow for me.

Since i am avid book reader I also am picky. If you borrow one bring it back and I hate seeing people that dog ear or leave a book open upside down. Please use bookmarks and put it on your bedside table or where it belongs after reading.

What is your biggest pet peeve in books?

Memories of mom and floods #MFRWauthor #blogchallenge #memories

Welcome back to the 52 week blog hop challenge. This weeks topic is a Childhood Memory. Since this month was mothers day I wanted to share a memory of my mom. There are some many. She was the funniest, sweetest loving women. Everyone in town loved her. She had more shoe than anyone i know. She had to have a pair for every out fit or some just because she liked them. One day she comes in with a pair of bright red  sequined flats. She called them her ruby slippers and actually wore these to work. In her later years she worked days at the hospital and nights at Wal-Mart at the service desk. Every kid that come by she would take their hand and do the No Place like Home routine. It was so fun to see kids running up to her looking to see if she was wearing them.

We had this tree in our back yard that had lots of strong limbs, that we all called the Starship Enterprise. It was easy to climb and had many “seats.”  it was also called the pee tree in summer swim season(don’t ask) We had so much fun on this tree, but it was also a safe haven. One day we had gone to grandmas and I cant remember what my sister and I did but we were in trouble. We ran to the tree. I boosted my sister up and we went as high as we could. Mom came tearing after us smacking the tree with a switched hollering you have to come down sooner or later and I will be madder. I can’t remember if we got switched or to( probably not. She also liked playing jokes. Her favorite was to put us in the tub at night then go outside scratching on the bathroom window and laughing like a loon when two naked wet little girls come slip sliding out of there. I also remember the weekends we went on trips. We didn’t have much money so we camped. Mom would get up like four o clock and fry chicken. We would stop at a roadside park halfway to our destination or on our picnicking  if it was closer. Sunday we always had fried chicken beans and cornbread. I loved waking up to that smell and was more worried about when can we eat chicken than how much further till we get there. I always miss mom, but Mother’s day brings back so many memories.

One of the songs mom always listened to while cooking. Always makes me think of fried chicken!

Where I live near the river May also brings another issue and that is high waters. We get them every year but sometimes we actually had floods. This year was one of those years. That reminded me of a time when I was a teenager and had stay across town wit a friend. We had a bad flood and the roads were lie little rivers and unpassable by car. Our town had lots of drainage ditches back then that we played in like free pools. My friends dad took his canoe and rowed me home via the ditches. we now have drainage ducts and no more ditches. The river got high but didn’t flood the streets.

Sometimes I miss the simple life when kids longed for the rain to go outside and dance, for the ditches to fill so we could swim in them, for free campsites and tents, and mom and her ruby slippers.

What are some of your favorite childhood memories?

Let’s go see what the other bloggers remember!

Cowboys and Bad boys~Oh Yeah! #MFRWauthor #blogchallenge #romance

Welcome to week  19 of the 52-week MFRW blog hop challenge.  The topic for this week is What is our perfect Romance Hero.

That is a real tough question for me as I don’t have a perfect one. My ideals change with my moods. This reflects in both my writing and reading material.

I guess my favorite is a Cowboy. I never seem to get tired of them. Whether is is a gentle, caring one saving his farm or raising some family members babies or starts out a royal pain in the butt ( these are my favorite I suppose) I like bad boys to redeem.

I also like Military men, special ops, bodyguards, firemen, and police. Bad boys rank high on my list as well. I like men they work hard yet have a soft spot under all that rough exterior. (ok erotica writers no chuckling.)

I also like chefs and blue-collar workers. I like men that work hard yet have a soft spot under all that hard exterior. (ok erotica writers no chuckling.)

Bad boys rank high on my list as well. I don’t know what it is about a bad boy but there is this invisible pull that leads me to them LOL. I guess I like the tough take no crap attitude, but we as authors can find their weakness and redeem them.

I fell in love with Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind and have loved bad boys ever since.

What is your favorite romance hero? Who was your first Romance Hero Crush?

Just for Giggles and..#MFRWauthor #blogchallenge #laughoutloud

Hi, Ya’ll Welcome to the 52-week MFRW blog tour challenge week 18. This week’s topic is What Makes Me Laugh Out Loud.  I don’t have a big sense of humor. It takes a lot to make me cry or laugh out loud. One thing that always drew laughs from me is Lucille Ball. I loved the I love Lucy Series and one of my favorite movies is The Long, Long Trailer. I too have an obsession with rocks and canning stuff so I related so much to that movie.

My grandkids make me laugh out loud. Right now we have birds that visit the tree outside my dining room and taunt my cats. You heard that right. The BIRDS tease the cats not the other way around. We have a robin that comes each morning around ten and perches in the tree then flies into the window over and over. I dubbed it Crazy Bird. Some days the cats just sit and watch some days they hop up and down like they are trying to catch it. Some days they even tumble off the window. It’s pretty hilarious.

Chloë sleeping on duty too.

I read or listen to ebooks a lot too and sometimes those can bring forth a giggle too.

What makes you laugh out loud?

If I could go anywhere~~ #MFRWauthor #top5 #bloghopchallenge

Hi Ya’ll! It’s week 17 of the MFRW 52 week blog challenge. This week our topic is the top five places we would like to visit.

Picking five is hard for me because there are so many places I would like to go visit and things to do. I have only been to Mississippi, Wyoming ( I lived in these two for short times many years ago) Arkansas and Tennessee since they are on the border of us and the only places to get to Walmart and Lowes LOL.  Also, Hubby’s family lives in Arkansas. We also went to Iowa to have  Hubby’s dad’s wake a couple years ago. I forgot about Pennsylvania my dad is from there and we visited a couple times as a kid. I still want to go back. I have lots of internet friends there I would like to meet.

When I met the hubby he took me on a vacation to Chicago. That was on top of my list and I had a blast. We also visited St. Louis every anniversary and Branson on our Honeymoon. These were all nice. So in retrospect, I guess I have been to a few more places than I thought. But that leaves a great big world out there that beckons.

I think my first choice would be England. I would like to see the country, the sea, and the castles there.  Castles bring me to Ireland I also would love to go there. and Australia. I love the Accents and Id love to see the land and animals there and maybe meet a couple of my friends I have there as well.

That leaves me two to pick in the US. New York, though I am not sure why I chose such a busy bustling place with my anxieties. I would love to see a Broadway play, visit some of the shops, central gardens and meet a friend or two from there that could tell me more places I need to visit while there.( I would slip across to Pennsylvania where a friend of mine lives  and one of my editors and see them too!)

Now let’s go clear across the country ( stopping in every state in between especially Utah to visit my beta reader and the aquarium and zoo she tells me so much about~~yes I cheated and got in more than five LOL)to California. I chose California because my husband use to drive a truck there and he says I need to see it. I will love the diversity and all the fresh fruits and veggies. I want to see the wine country and the San Francisco bridge even though I may not cross it ( I have a fear of big bridges and water.)I also want to see the coast and Ocean. I have never been. Funny I want to see all this water and have such a fear right?

For a recap. My top five places I want to visit are~ England~Ireland~Australia~New York and California.

What are our top five places you want to visit?

Now let’s go see what the other MFRW chose as their top five!
