Come chat with V.L. Locey and R. J Scott ~ #newrelease

Cat *Beebobs in singing badly to Soak Up the Sun*

“OOPs! Hi ya’ll” *Blushes taking of my earphones. * ” I am so excited! Today I have not one but two of my favorite authors stopping by.” *Pulls out two chairs on the patio*

“Hi V.L. and R.J. Thanks for dropping by. Can I offer you a glass of Tea, lemonade, wine or a mixed drink?”

V.L. – Generally it would be water but since we’re celebrating a book release, bring on the wine!

R.J. – Tea, I’m not a great drinker… hell, who am I kidding, wine please… no… not a glass… just give me the bottle

Cat “Would you like a grilled veggie sandwich, chicken kabob, beef kabob, burger or something?” *motions to the tray of grill food. *

V.L. – Burger for me.

R.J. – What is a kabob? Is that like chicken on a stick? *Cat nods* I’ll have that please J

Cat “I hope you don’t mind the soundtrack I have running I have a habit of turning on my iPhone while I’m sitting out. This is some country,80’s and of course Adam Levine. Do you have a favorite channel or a playlist and what’s usually on it?”

V.L.  – I can’ work with music or the TV on. I get easily distracted. I DO make up playlists for my characters as part of my process of getting to know them better though.

R.J. – I like a whole load of songs, and I listen to songs as I am writing. They have to be songs I know so that I can almost *tune them out* if that makes any sense… My favorite song of all time is Like A Prayer by Madonna.

Cat “I love sitting on my patio reading and entertaining. What do you like to do in your downtime?”

V.L. – Watch Rangers hockey or any hockey really. I like to read, practice yoga, walk, play video games, and read comic books on my down time. What little there is of it.

R.J. – Reading and watching films mostly sums me up. I am a couch potato who loves to live in the worlds created by the books or the TV. Oh and hockey, all the hockey J

Molly my terrier comes up for some attention, followed by Kitness. Kitness rubs against V.L. and R.J.’s legs, Chloe peeks around and curls up in the sun ignoring them.

“Do you have pets?”

V.L. -A few. =D We have two Jersey steers, chickens, geese, two cats and a dog.

R.J. – Holds breath as I am allergic to cats:

*Cat takes the cats back inside*

O I have a dog, Jack. He’s a black lab and he’s just turned 12. He’s in a couple of my books – Last Marine Standing, and of course, Guarding Morgan J

Cat “For those of us that don’t know you tell us a little about yourself.”

V.L. I’m from the mountains of Pennsylvania and I write mostly MM romance, generally hockey although I do dabble in non-hockey contemporary as well as some MM paranormal. I also have an M/F hockey romance series as well.

RJ – I’m from England, in a town about 40m NW of London and I’ve been writing what seems like forever. From essays to long handed fan fiction at the age of 12 I am all about the writing. I found MM Supernatural fan fiction in 2007 or so, and I haven’t looked back. I write mostly MM, although I have 5 titles that are MF. I create stories with a guaranteed happy ever after and I love writing everything from angst to drama to action to family… you get where I’m going with this.

Cat: What does your writing cave look like? Do you always write in the same place or have a few?

V.L.  – I work at my kitchen room table. Someday I hope to have an office but until we move to a bigger house it’s the table for me.

R.J. – I have an office. It’s all mine. I have a standard desk, and a wall that I have all my posters up on. It’s actually a dining room that I have stolen but in my new house I have a study, a proper grown up study. LOL. Of course I have to move first and it’s likely going to be in August. *HELL*.

Cat “Your both on the top of my favorite authors list and I was happily surprised to see you collaborate. How did you come up with this idea?”

V.L. – Rj was hosting me on her blog one day and during the interview we mentioned how we’d love to write a book together as we were fans of the others works. That led to at least two series in the works. Probably there would be more if Rachel didn’t keep us in line. =D

R.J. We just won’t tell Rachel what we’re up too… bwahahahahah. What Vicki said, it just happened, and it’s been the best co-authoring experience ever. The stories just flow so easily and it’s been good for my solo writing.

Cat: What is your method? Does one of you each do a character or how does collaborating work?”

V.L. – Yep, we each write one character in first person POV.

R.J. – What Vicki said, we also comment and edit each other’s characters, and we talk a lot when we’re working.

Cat. Tell us a little about this series?

V.L.  This series is about the Harrisburg Railers, an expansion team that’s working hard to make its presence felt in the NHL. We’ll be dealing with various players and their romances, of course.

  1. J.

Tell us a about this book.

Changing Lines is all about Tennant Rowe, the youngest of three hockey brothers, and always expected to be like his brothers. Much to his brother’s disgust he opts to play for the Railers, even though they are a new team, and not an original six team. He meets Jared, defensive coach, who has his own set of problems, including a teenage son that was born when Jared was only 16 himself. Lust happens pretty quick… but love? That has many obstacles to overcome J

How many books will be in this series?

V.L. – If we follow through on all the ideas we have about 35,000. I kid! Mostly. We’ don’t have a set limit yet.

R.J. At least 35,001… We’re writing until it doesn’t feel right anymore… which I can’t see happening ever.

Cat: Will you be working together again?

V.L. – Yep! We’re going to do an NA MM collegiate hockey romance spin-off series, about the team from Owatanna U.

R.J. We have so many ideas and Vicki mentioned the NA series that I can’t wait to start.

Do you write things other than Hockey romance?

V.L. – My answer is above

R.J. – Loads of stuff, all the stuff… so many storylines…

Thank you for stopping by and sharing. It’s been fun.

A little about the book(blurb)

Can Tennant show Jared that age is just a number, and that love is all that matters?

The Rowe Brothers are famous hockey hotshots, but as the youngest of the trio, Tennant has always had to play against his brothers’ reputations. To get out of their shadows, and against their advice, he accepts a trade to the Harrisburg Railers, where he runs into Jared Madsen. Mads is an old family friend and his brother’s one-time teammate. Mads is Tennant’s new coach. And Mads is the sexiest thing he’s ever laid eyes on.

Jared Madsen’s hockey career was cut short by a fault in his heart, but coaching keeps him close to the game. When Ten is traded to the team, his carefully organized world is thrown into chaos. Nine years his junior and his best friend’s brother, he knows Ten is strictly off-limits, but as soon as he sees Ten’s moves, on and off the ice, he knows that his heart could get him into trouble again.

Survivor

A new stand alone MM Romance

Taylor Langford was only thirteen years old when his world was torn apart, his parents killed during a supposed robbery gone bad. With no other living relatives, the young boy certainly would have wound up another statistic of foster care were it not for the intervention of the Policeman that found Taylor hiding in the crawl space his mother hid him in that fateful night.

Frank Moore went to work for the Dallas Police Department not long after he graduated from the academy. He was still a rookie when he and his partner answered a call in one of the cities more affluent neighborhoods, Devonshire. At first they thought the young boy in the various pictures in the home had been kidnapped until they found him, shaken but alive, in a crawl space in the attic.

Officer Moore recognizes the pain in the kid’s eyes, having lost his own mother when he was just a boy to cancer. He intervenes. Making sure Taylor is placed with a loving foster family and over the years, becomes a permanent fixture in Taylor’s life.

A decade later the case still remains unsolved and the once gangly, uncertain teenager is now a college graduate coming home to the man that helped mold and shape his life, the man he’s loved for as long as he can remember, Frank Moore. But Taylor isn’t the only person returning to Dallas and while Frank is distracted, trying to convince Taylor that infatuation and love are two entirely different things, the past creeps up on them, determined to finish what was started ten years ago.

Meet Taylor and Frank!

I’ve been a fan of actor Matthew Daddario for a while and always wanted to write his likeness into a character. I especially fond of Matthew in the role of Shadowhunter Alec Lightwood on the Shadowhunters. When I first started laying out the character Taylor, Matthew continued to pop into my head as Taylor. He’s tall, dark and handsome and the perfect fit for the story and the character.

I was a huge Sonny and Will fan until Days lost their mind and completely destroyed the couple. That was where I first saw Brant Daugherty as one of Sonny’s boyfriends. Frank is ten years older than Taylor in the story and I think that Brant and his appearance when considered age wise along side Matthew is the perfect fit.

The tentative release date for Survivor is August 1st at this time. Depending on writing, editing and scheduling I’m hoping a little sooner but that will all depend on circumstances.

Field Trips and Writing

There’s a saying about writers that everything we do ends up in a book. Everything we see, do, taste, hear about, and every place we visit, inhabit, and explore. Every story has characters, plot elements and events, and of course, place and location, or setting. Many stories are set in imaginary places and others are grounded in real places. Since I live in California, I enjoy setting my romances in places I’ve lived and visited: San Francisco, San Diego, Laguna Beach, Hollywood, as well as an imaginary place, Christmas Creek on the Redwood Coast.

My Have a Hart Series is set in San Francisco, particularly the Sunset district, south of Golden Gate Park. It is a fascinating neighborhood that surprisingly enough has a “small town” feel smack dab in a large, impersonal city. Perhaps it has to do with being on the edge of Golden Gate Park, or the fact that it has the worse weather in California, smack dab in the fog zone. Or it could be Irving Street full of small Asian restaurants, or the neighborly feel of the dive bars and independent coffee shops that still exist despite recent gentrification. In any case, while writing Spring Fling Kitty, I wanted to experience the essence of the neighborhood by walking through it, eating at a ramen shop, and visiting Golden Gate Park.

In Spring Fling Kitty, my heroine, Nadine Woo, is an adventurous artist. She first meets Connor Hart, a San Francisco firefighter, while climbing a tree to rescue her kitten. I walked through Golden Gate Park looking for interesting trees that she could climb. Nadine enjoys eating at the Asian food shops along Irving Street, so I walked up and down the street and ate at a ramen shop. My friend and I also walked by the fire station and looked through windows of the area bars, which weren’t open on a lazy Sunday morning. The day was drizzling and rainy at parts, but it was a wonderful adventure.

Although the setting for Spring Fling Kitty was based on real locations: Golden Gate Park, Spreckel’s Lake, Irving Street, and Ocean Beach, all the shops and locations such as the Love Bean Coffee Shop, the firestation, and other details are all fictional. It’s good practice to avoid getting into trouble. But by visiting the actual setting, I was able to capture the feel and energy of the neighborhood and weave it into my story in ways that made it more realistic. There is a Vietnamese restaurant with over a hundred items on their menu, spicy ramen noodles, trees that are angular and crooked, a firestation, and row houses worth millions. That’s all real, but the details are imaginary. What I love best about writing real places is the notes I get from readers either wanting to visit, or actually checking it out for themselves and telling me they saw a tree Nadine could have climbed, or the coffee shop she might have met Connor at, or the firebox that figured into the end of the story.

A stray cat shows a fire chief and his fiancee’s sister that doing the wrong thing is sometimes right when it comes to love. Spring Fling Kitty – feel the love, the romance, and the danger.

Author: Rachelle Ayala

Pages: 298 pages

Heartbreaker Connor Hart, one of the youngest fire chiefs in the country, is planning on marrying Dr. Elaine Woo, a woman who pretended to cheat on him with his best friend many years ago. She bought him a Dalmatian puppy, he gave her a ring—and the women of San Francisco are about to lose their most eligible bachelor.

Artist and poet Nadine Woo is down on her luck. The cast-off half-sister of Dr. Elaine Woo, she doesn’t measure up, according to her strict and distant father. When Nadine and her mother are about to be evicted from their apartment, she gets an interesting offer from her sister. Seems she’s in need of a little help concerning her relationship with Fire Chief Connor Hart.

As soon as Nadine meets Connor, she knows she’s in for a rough ride. Connor is the fireman who rescued her and her little gray kitten, and she’s never forgotten how safe she felt in his arms.

When Nadine takes her sister’s place at a spring fling weekend with Connor, love ignites, and there’s no going back.

Can a spunky little kitty show Connor and Nadine that doing the wrong thing is sometimes right, especially when it comes to love?

Spring Fling Kitty is Book #3 of the Have A Hart Romance Series. It can be read standalone, although characters from the previous books appear here in supporting roles.

MY REVIEW

Connor Hart a young Fire Chief is about to marry his childhood sweetheart Elaine Woo, who gave up on their relationship in College to become a doctor. Now she is back and claiming Connor.
Nadine Woo, Elaine’s half sister from her Father’s mistress is a free-spirited artist. She met Connor one day when he rescued her and her Fiesty Kitty Greyheart. She feels connected to him immediately…until she finds out he is her sister’s fiance and her sister wants her to be their surrogate.
Thier Father suddenly decides to divorce Elaine’s mom and kick Nadine and her mom out of their apartment for Elaine’s best friend, a young doctor. Schemes abound among Elaine, Nadine, and their brother to break them up.

I loved this story. There is a lot going on and i was surprised at all the drama and twists. Just when you think you have things figured out…Bam! another twist! There is not on-page sex, so the story is sweet and clean.
I loved Nadine and her free-spirited ways. I also liked the poetry in the story and how the meanings fit each situation, almost like a premonition.
If you like sweet, clean romance with lots of twists and drama, Sexy firefighters and sweet artists you will love this book. I highly recommend this book( and the other two Hart stories) for some fun summer reading.

Cat’s Meow~~#Reviews That Purr~~April’s Kiss In The Moonlight By Jean Joachim~~#romanceinbloom

Hi, Yall!! Welcome back to  Cat’s Meow~~Reviews that Purr!  This Month we are celebrating springtime and the month of April. I have a few good books to review for you. I am starting off with one of my favorite contemporary romance authors, Jean Joachim. This is an older book from her Moonlight series, April’s Kiss in the Moonlight

I asked Jean what her favorite thing about spring is. She offered to share some lovely photographs purchased from Bigstock  with us.

In Praise of the Mighty Crocus

A collection of early crocus (Crocus tommasinianus) growing under a bush. Lovely purple and yellow colors. This is one of the first flowers to bloom in early spring. Aka woodland or tommasinis crocus.

wildflower meadow with early spring crocus geroldsee and karwendel mountains scenic spring landscape germany

Yellow and purple crocuses in spring, The crocuses family.the first flowers of spring

Pictures bought by Jean on BigStock.com

The crocus is my hero.

Does that sound silly? How many people consider flowers to be heroic? I do. The crocus and the snowdrop are courageous. Why? They are the first flowers of spring to bloom. They break the ground for all others. They raise their heads proudly, risking attack by a late frost or burial under an unexpected spring snow.Death by freezing –brrr, not a way I’d choose to go. Snowdrops only promise to be white. That makes the crocus the bigger hero, adding color to the landscape for the first time in months. The crocus blooms in a variety of purples, yellow or white, and sometimes with thin stripes of color  on white. Not a large, majestic plant, they often grow in colonies, producing bursts of color.

The short, humble crocus raises it’s petals to the world, saying “Look at me!” The tiny flower begs for a drop of appreciation before the real show with the big guns begins: daffodils, tulips, irises, and tiger lilies, to mention only a few.

Hail, mighty crocus! You are the harbinger of spring. I bow to your bravery and beauty, and keep watch every March for the first signs of you pushing up toward the sun.

Thank you so much, Jean, for taking time out of your busy day to share such lovely thoughts and photographs with us.

April's Kiss in the Moonlight (Moonlight, #2)

Title: April’s Kiss in the Moonlight

Series: Moonlight book 2

Author: Jean  Joachim

Pages: 235 pages

Genre: M/F,  sweet contemporary romance,

Fresh from graduate school, April McKenna, beautiful and brilliant vows to strike out on a new path rather than return to San Francisco to take a job with her father’s firm. She meets Rusty and sets off for an escapade that ends in tragedy. Injured and alone she is taken in by Sunny Davis, a friend of her mother’s who lives in a small town in the Catskill Mountains in New York.

During her recovery, April resolves to carve out an exotic life of travel and adventure. But she didn’t count on a sexy fireman upsetting her plans. Gavin Dailey has dated practically every woman in the county, but when he meets April, he knows he’s finally found the one he wants. Only a stubborn man like Gavin wouldn’t let April’s resistance to his charm and his small town change his plans. Determined to win her, he pulls out all the stops until he encounters one stumbling block he didn’t count on. Only a near-tragedy resurrected from the past gives April the tenacity she needs to make the right decision for her life in April’s Kiss in the Moonlight.

This is a sweet contemporary romance with no explicit sex or bad language.

MY REVIEW

April has just gotten out of college in New York and is driving back home to California to a postion her dad has set up for her. She isnt looking forward to living the life her dad is choosing. She meets a hitchhiker that changes her life. Several months later her car explodes injuring her and presuming Rusty dead. Her mom’s friend Sunny picks her up and takes her to her home and helps her to heal. She meets a sexy firefighter. Could a city girl ever be happy in a small country town?

April’s Kiss by Moonlight is a sweet, fun romance. The character’s are all charming, the storyline compelling, and there are some twists along the way.
If you are looking for a good, clean romance with a touch of intrigue, sexy with no explicit on page sex this is for you.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review

How about a little more April’s Kiss In The Moonlight?

April dried her long, lustrous, dark brown hair, which fell to her shoulders in loose curls framing her bruised oval face. Her eyes, so dark they were almost black, reflected her troubles. Her black eye was turning yellow, and the bruise on her delicate chin matched it.

She wrapped a towel around her body and tucked the corner in between her breasts, picked up her hair dryer, and opened the bathroom door. She walked into the living room and ran smack dab into the best looking man she’d ever seen coming around the corner. She bumped into him and grabbed her towel to secure it. He steadied her with his big hands on her elbows as his gaze met hers. They stopped and stared. April felt a sizzle, like an electric current rise her arms and shoulders from the touch of his hands.

Standing about six feet tall with a slender but strong build, the intriguing stranger, had the bluest eyes and darkest hair imaginable. His eyebrows were thick; sideburns perfectly clipped and two days growth of beard appeared on his long, narrow face. She couldn’t take her eyes off him.

Gavin’s gaze took in her glossy brown hair, lovely face, black-and-blue marks and all, then traveled down her towel-clad body slowly, stopping to rest on the swell of her breasts above the towel before sliding down to examine her lovely legs. He was obviously entranced and rendered speechless by her five feet four inches normally attractive, now painfully colorful.  His eyebrows lifted as he eyed her bruised shoulders.

“What happened to you?” he muttered, dropping his hands from her arms.

“Got in the way of an explosion,” she explained.

He nodded, then eyed the engagement ring on her hand.

“Gavin Dailey,” he said, extending his hand.

“April McKenna.”

Her hands were too full to shake his and as she looked down at them, she remembered she was wearing only a towel. Her hand flew to secure the towel’s precarious tuck at her chest while her face flamed. She sputtered something unintelligible and ran from the room, hearing the sound of his low chuckle behind her.

Gavin walked to the door; his eyes followed her outside; she was flanked by a dog on either side. He watched the sway of her hips and the bounce of her hair when she descended the half dozen steps to the backyard. The dogs took off, running. April tried to run but, obviously, the pain stopped her, and she stood still; feeling his gaze, she turned to look at him. Gavin’s eyes met hers, his breath stopping for a moment before he went back to work. April’s fingers raked her hair as she turned away from the house.

He winced when he saw her doubled over from the pain. He wanted to fold her in his arms, soothe her with kisses until each bruise disappeared. A slight heat crept into his cheeks when he remembered the engagement ring she wore. Never before had he wanted another man’s woman; this was the first time.
