A mixup #MFRWauthor #socialmedia #fixingmymistake #blogchallenge

Hi ya’ll This is week 15 of the MFRW52week blog Challenge. It seems like somehow last week I posted the wrong post.  It was supposed to be where my inspiration comes from and this week was the social media one. I am blaming my dyslexia for the mix-up.  I am going to do a little combo thingy to catch up!

I get my inspirations from so many places. It could be a person I see walking down the street and I wonder what is his or her story. Sometimes an outfit on the computer or ad on TV and a Character may pop into my mind.  Of course, all the yummy men on Pinterest help me describe my leading man or protagonist. As you see It is easy for me to get character inspiration. Plots are another thing altogether. I really struggle with that. Luckily I am a character driven writer and my characters tend to lead me down the path of the story.  I like writing outside of the box so I may take a trope or two and twist them up.  Sometimes stories just pop into my head so I keep pens and paper nearby.

I hang out mostly at facebook, twitter, Google + and Pinterest. I have an author page Cathy Brockman Romance but I forget to use it as I hang out mostly at my main Facebook page.  I have a Freebie book page called Happy Readings, where I post free and sale priced books I find too if you would like to check it out. ( authors feel free to post your free or 99 cent books there. Be sure to put a date they are free though). I love stalkers so come join me. I love making new friends so come hang out with me!

Where do you get your inspiration? Let’s go see where the others hang out.

Yuck that’s not romantic…it ‘s gross! #MFRWauthor #ickywords

It’s week 9 of the Marketing for Romance Writers weekly blog challenge. This week’s theme is Words that make me go ick.  I am an avid reader and average at least 4 books a week. I read a lot of M/M romance and this is where I find most of my squicky words. The one highest on my list is calling a person’s hole a rosebud. Really? Rosebud? Comparing a butt to a pretty flower that smells sweet? *gags* It gets worse if they have it quivering or winking Yeah winking. If a hole winks at me when things should be all sexy, I’m getting up and running! Another one I don’t like in reading romance is describing the female’s body parts with Sex. Her sex this or that. Come on there is no part called a sex. The word leaves me cold. The same for the word heat. Heat is not a body part. Moist is another one. Moist is better left in making a good cake or maybe even chicken or pork chops. Let’s keep it out of the bedroom. I could go on and on with dirty words (especially when it comes to M/M erotic romance) but I won’t. These are the ones in reading romance that freak me the most. I am anxious to see what the other others say on this topic, especially those that do write the spicy stuff.

Now on to other icky words. Slug. Slime. To me, they are both the same and say one and I nearly throw up. Yeah, show me a spider I will probably get a container to catch it and put it out or leave it alone depending on what it is. Yet let a slug get in my path and I run screaming to the bathroom to toss my cookies. One gets in the house I am salting every baseboard in the house. A salt circle to keep those demons out! And I still probably won’t sleep that night! I hate those toys that are rubbery and you throw and they stick to the wall. The texture is just gross. The word slime is enough to make me queasy.

At least this post was good diet control. I was getting hungry but suddenly lost my appetite.

What words make you go ick?

Come see what the other authors find yucky!

Name that book in~One Line #MFRWauthor #amwriting #booktitles #FF

Welcome to week 8 of the MFRWauthors  blog challenge. This week’s prompt is How  I Choose a Book Title. It isn’t as easy as it sounds and it’s another of those things each author has their unique way. Sometimes my title comes to me and generates the story other times they elude me. Like Baseball Bats and Cowboy Hats.  I do love this title, and it has shaped the story. But the story has grown some, and I am not one hundred percent sure this will stay the book’s title. Also, It has generated the idea for at least one Spinoff a MM romance I simply call Simon Plus Two, since I do not have a title.  I also have a sequel or another spinoff, so I am considering using BaseBall Bats and Cowboy Hats as the Series Title instead of a book title.

A book is like a child to an author. We give birth to the characters, creating them watching them grow, then suddenly it’s time to let them grow and get out into the world spreading happiness and love to our readers. But our readers won’t take our babies into their homes if their names aren’t catchy enough to grab attention.  As a reader, I am very picky about titles. I find I do tend to pick up titles with nothing but Names especially if in a series. Especially if that name is above a hot cowboy, military man or firefighter. I digress.

How do I come up with a title? Sometimes it is a song that stirs me, a name that gives me a character inspiration, or as in my most recent case a commercial. I am so excited about this one.  I have a folder full of ideas. Half have titles the other only working titles such as James and Logan ( a MM contemporary) and Ninety Days a working title. Once I finish the stories, I hope a title will emerge from the sea of words and I will scoop it up with my writers net and give it a home.

What kind of title do you like? Do you like one-word titles? Names only? Do you like the title to be in the story at least once if not a few times?

Let’s go see how the other come up with their titles!

Thats’s Not Trash!~Thats Crafts! #MFRWauthor #hobbies #crafts

Welcome to week 6 of the 52-week MFRW blog challenge.  Each week we have a topic.

This week’s prompt is…My hobby is … When I’m not writing.

I nearly shouted in joy when I saw this topic! Hobbies? Boy, do I have hobbies!* Looks int the nearly bursting craft room.*

I  am not a hoarder.. nope I’m  sticking to it… I am a recycler and crafter. I see beauty in all things trash… well not all things but most. I use to throw it all in trash bags in a closet in my hall until I had the perfect project or time to make something with it.  Of course, then I could never find what I was looking for.

When we remodeled, a craft room was on my wish list. My husband took the old back porch we never used, enlarged it and made me a combo craft/ exercise room.  He also made me the perfect work table as well.  The table is big enough for my sewing machine, serger and cameo to sit out all the time and still have room to work. It is also big enough to cut out fabric on.

I use the kitty litter in the big yellow buckets leaving me buckets I can’t seem to toss as well.  When I had to unpack that closet, we tore out for the remodel I came up with a way to reduce my hoarding and organize as well. It also uses up those buckets. ( I knew they would come in handy and save me money on tubs!) I marked each one with the items I collect such as plastic creamer bottles, Jars, you get the Idea. When each bucket is stuffed full, I can’t keep more of that item until I use some out of the bucket. The buckets stack neatly behind my exercise equipment.

I also have my craft supplies. I have those plastic drawers I keep those in.

Sewing and Crochet are my favorite hobbies. I collect dolls of all sorts and like to sew for them,  I am starting a craft page and website to sell my goodies on in the next couple of months.

I can’t throw away old clothes since I see projects. I have tubs of jeans, t-shirts, assorted sweaters. Same rules apply. These tubs get full I have to let go the others. I have plenty things planned. I have a set of placements cut out already.

I have tons of fabric as well and yarn.  I finally got that all sorted and organized as well.

So as you see I have lots of hobbies besides writing.  Do you have any hobbies?

Don’t forget this is a blog hop. Anyone can join at any point in the MFRW 52 week challenge…  Click here.

Let’s go check out the other authors and see what their hobbies are!

How does my family survive living with a writer? #MFRWauthor

How does my family survive living with a writer?

Hi, Y’all. I have joined the 2 weeks blog hop challenge. Each week we are given a prompt.
This week’s Prompt is How does my family survive living with a writer.
It’s just my husband, me and all the furbabies. My husband and I are both retired.
Writing gives me something to do. My husband stays out of it. (unless I need money for a cover or editor or something LOL.)
I usually get up early in the morning, get my grandkids off then come home and write. My writing time is done by the time the kids get home. My hubby sometimes sleeps in so the house is nice and quiet. Right now my office is cold, and I am down in my back( a disability I have) so I have been using the long chaise in the house. My furbabies love it. Molly, my dog, will curl up close beside me. Chloë, my special kitty finds her a nice cozy spot, usually next to me on a leg or down on my feet. Sometimes Kitness, my other cat will join the big loving pile.

I do have a beautiful office I should be using, but then I couldn’t cuddle with the furries.
I do wish someone in my family was more excited about my writing. It’d be good to have someone to talk to about my craft and discuss my stories. I have a great little group that does that, though.
Do you write or have a craft? How does your family deal with it?
Check out the other bloggers to see how their families survive writing.
