Cat’s Meow~Drama Cruise~Nicky & Noah Mysteries~Joe Cosentino

HOLIDAYS ARE THE BEST TIME FOR A CRUISE

Nicky and Noah mystery book three: Drama Cruise, by Joe Cosentino, published by Lethe Press

The middle of December means the start of winter break for those of us who live in the world of academia. With a month off, I had cold cabin fever and wanted to get away. My spouse’s family had taken a ten-day cruise to Alaska and recommended it to us. As Nicky in my Nicky and Noah mystery novels would say, “My heart was pounding like a hooker’s pelvis.” Prone to motion sickness, I had never taken a cruise, and I was shaking like a life preserver in a storm. I packed my ginger capsules and grumbling stomach (and mouth) and we were off.

To my relief, the boat rocked a bit but not enough for motion sickness. We did have one comical episode in a yoga class when we fell over doing the tree pose. However, we also had amazing meals aplenty, gorgeous ocean views, a tail-waving whale, and a fun helicopter ride to the glaciers. We also embarked on land excursions to a tramway over the mountains, a totem pole park, a log climbers’ show, a frontier habitat, and a Native American village. Our cabin sported a private balcony and a gay porter who seemed excited to find a gay couple onboard ship. Onboard ship we raised our noses at an art show, played bingo like senior citizens on church night, gambled like card sharks at the casino, and saw a musical revue with singing and dancing cupcakes. When we returned home, I decided to immortalize our trip by setting the third Nicky and Noah mystery onboard a cruise to Alaska.

Not familiar with the Nicky and Noah mysteries? If you haven’t read Drama Queen (Divine Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best Mystery, Best Crime, Best Humorous, Best Contemporary novel of 2015) and Drama Muscle (Rainbow Award Honorable Mention) published by Lethe Press, you should! It is a gay cozy mystery comedy series, meaning the setting is warm and cozy, the clues and murders (and laughs) come fast and furious, there are enough plot twists and turns and a surprise ending to keep the pages turning, and at the center is a touching gay romance between Associate Professor of Directing Nicky Abbondanza and Assistant Professor of Acting Noah Oliver at fictitious Treemeadow College (started by a gay couple, Tree and Meadow) in Vermont. Along the way, Nicky and Noah fall in love, as I’ve heard the readers fall in love with them.

In Drama Cruise it is summer on a ten-day cruise from San Francisco to Alaska and back. Nicky and Noah must figure out why college theatre professors are dropping like life rafts as Nicky directs a murder mystery dinner theatre show onboard ship starring Noah and other college theatre professors from across the US. Complicating matters are their both sets of wacky parents who want to embark on all the activities on and off the boat with the handsome couple. Martin Anderson (Nicky and Noah’s department head) and his bickering husband are also along for the rocky ride. As in the first two books, there are a slew of colorful, hysterically funny victims and suspects like the cruise director who talks endlessly about her glory days as a theatre major in college, the ship’s doctor who is looking for the secret of life, Nicky and Noah’s porter who wants them to adopt him, and the captain of the boat who insists he has seen the ghost of his former sea captain. The theatre professors are equally as colorful, including an alcoholic who believes he has seen a mermaid, a hypochondriac looking for love, a comic with a cat of nine tails in her closet, and a Shakespearian actor who can’t keep his hands off his volume of the Bard—or off anyone else. And who is the mysterious Professor Nan Joy Hassahl?

So take your front row seat. The boat is leaving from port. Lights up and ahoy matey! Alaska here we come!

Theater professors and couple, Nicky Abbondanza and Noah Oliver, are going overboard as usual, but this time on an Alaskan cruise, where dead college theatre professors are popping up everywhere from the swimming pool to the captain’s table. Further complicating matters are Nicky’s and Noah’s parents as surprise cruise passengers, and Nicky’s assignment to direct a murder mystery dinner theater show onboard ship. Nicky and Noah will need to use their drama skills to figure out who is bringing the curtain down on vacationing theatre professors before it is lights out for the handsome couple. You will be applauding and shouting Bravo for Joe Cosentino’s fast-paced, side-splittingly funny, edge-of-your-seat entertaining third novel in this delightful series. Curtain up and ship ahoy!

 MY REVIEW

You can tell by the cover that this is going to be another fun adventure with Nicky and Noah. If you haven’t read any of the other Nicky and Noah mysteries, that’s Ok these stand alone well. In this, the third book in the series, Nicky, and Noah are on a cruise. They have been chosen to put on a mystery dinner the last night of the cruise. But at the rate the actors keep dropping dead, there may not be anyone left to put on the play.

We also get Nicky, and Noah’s parents on the cruise and they are as funny as Professor Martin and his husband, Rubin.Nicky and Noah’s parents are constantly bickering over who is going to do what, planning their sons’ wedding. So between, the murder mystery and the humor this book has it all. The mystery is another that isn’t easy to solve, just when you think you have that one may drop dead. There is sweet romance between Nicky and Noah, but the sex is off the page.If you are looking for a good, funny book to shake the blahs, love mystery, humor and romance and a story with a twist or two you’re bound to love this.

Praise for DRAMA MUSCLE, the second Nicky and Noah mystery by Joe Cosentino from Lethe Press, Rainbow Award Honorable Mention:

“reading these books is like watching a fabulous comedic, murder mystery, action, adventure, romantic film.” “I was giggle snorting and laughing so much I had to stop reading. Joe Cosentino’s writing is absolutely flawless. He’s a master storyteller and will keep you guessing and utterly riveted until Drama Muscle’s highly satisfying ending. This is an absolute gem of a book, and series.” Divine Magazine

“Joe Cosentino has done it again! He has created another brilliant masterpiece for us all. A cozy sleuth mystery combined with humor and attractive themes.” Danielle Urban, Universal Creativity Inc.

“Book 1, Drama Queen was always going to be a hard act to follow with its belly ache laughter approach but in this “smirkathong” – yes I was smirking throughout the book, my top lip still aches – the author succeeded in delivering another comic classic!” Three Books Over the Rainbow

“As with the first book, there are laugh out loud, completely funny sections. And enough of the mystery and suspense that keeps me reading” “I look forward to the next story” The TBR Pile

“laugh out loud funny” “Readers will be on the edge of their seats waiting for the killer to be revealed.” “As a romance, readers will love seeing Nicky and Noah settling in to living together in their Victorian home.” “I highly recommend this series.” Joyfully Jay Reviews

“Such a well woven story that is literally laugh out loud funny.” Boy Meets Boy Reviews

“Joe Cosentino offers his readers something original and very different to the generic contemporary M/M romances out there and I because of that I can’t recommend Drama Muscle enough; it is another moment of genius by Joe Cosentino!” Kirsty Loves Books

“This is a wonderful addition to the series! I fell in love with Nicky in the first book and he just gets better. Filled with humor and action. Noah evolves in this story, his character grows into a more mature yet still adorable sidekick to Nicky. They are perfect together, in detective work and in family situations. I hope that there are more to follow.” Crystals Many Reviewers

“This book is a comic romp that simultaneously celebrates and lampoons a mash-up of genres: the bloodless murders (in this case six) of Agatha Christie and her ilk, the screwball movie mysteries of Nick and Norah Charles (it’s Nick and Noah here), and the simile-rich voice-overs of film noir– all updated for a gay context.” Elisa Rainbow, Rainbow Awards

Halo is a beautifully written story of happiness heartache and second chances.  Halo and Thomas met at a tender age of her being 15 and him 17 they began seeing each other right away and things were perfect for them. Exept Thomas was hiding his family and past. Halo still stuck around when  it came out that he was from a poor family and his father was an abusive alcoholic.  Thomas had already signed up to be a seal when he and Halo met.  When Halo was 17 her parents died and Thomas decided to stick around until she was better. He finally joined them military, and came back from his first tour a changed man. Halo thought telling him she was pregnant would make him happy instead, he ran, filed for divorce and disappeared.
Going into labor early she ended up at the hospital alone, having a cesarean and falling in front of a wounded soldier.
Something about der St. John pushed a Halo and she invited hi to rent an over the garage apartment instead of staying in the VA Rehab.
I loved this story. I have to admit I figured out Ryder’s secret right away and couldn’t quite figure out how Halo didn’t, but the story was fast paced with a good story line and secondary plots. It is written in alternating views, Ryder’s dreams and Halo think back  as well. I have to admit I was leery of so many changes but it was fluid and marked well enough it was easy to follow.
If you like Navy Seals, Dark romance, strong leading ladies, cute babies and a good ending this is for you.

HOSTED BY:

Cat’s Meow~Bad Boys For Hire~ Ryker and Ken by Rachelle Ayala

Hi. Y’all Welcome to Sexy Saturday. This week I am introducing you to some Bad Boys. Do you like Motorcycle Clubs? How about Beach Bums.  Rachelle Ayala has both for you.

I asked Rachelle about her new series  Bad Boys for Hire.

Bad boys are guys you don’t bring home to your conservative religious mother. They march to their own tune, don’t follow rules, and live dangerously.

Guys who ride bikes are generally bad ass. It’s noisy, fun, dangerous, and exciting. Whenever I see a guy on a bike flying down the road, cutting in and out of lanes, and roaring around corners, I know he’s fearless. Being fearless is wildly attractive, at least to me, and that’s why I love Ryker Slade. He’s fearless, but he has principles, a code of honor.

Extreme surfers like Ken are also fearless. They get on fifty-foot waves that crash so hard, they can be recorded on the Richter scale. Ken might not have traditional career goals as a doctor, lawyer, or accountant, and living dangerously is not a stable lifestyle, especially for a woman like Jolie, who has OCD. But Ken is the perfect man: sensitive, considerate, and oh so hot. Having a surfer’s perfectly sculpted body makes him legendary and the perfect man for when that wedding goes all sorts of wrong.

First up is Ryker A dark MC(Motorcycle Club) Romance

MY REVIEW

5 Meows 4 purrs

Ryker is an ex-marine and ex-biker down on his luck. He never had any plans of coming home but after an injury that got him out of the service, he returned and now can’t find a job and is living in a barn doing odd jobs and panhandling when he has to.

Terri is a florist. She is about to turn 30, is a bit overweight and has a secret past. She can be quite outspoken and harsh at times. Her friend is getting married, and she and a group of friends are working on wedding plans. Terri is a florist, one is a baker, another a photographer, they all work in the wedding planning field. One day at a weekly planning meeting they see a hot man panhandling, and Terri approaches him with harsh words. So she ends up offering him a job for the afternoon not thinking he would show.

I love Rachelle Ayala. Her stories range from sweet, to moderately sexy to this one that turns up the heat. I loved Ryker. I liked that Terri is not your ordinary sweet, perfect leading lady. She is quite the opposite. He is a broken man. There are a lot of shocking twists, and the story keeps you turning the page. My mouth dropped open several times. I even had to say WTF at the end. It was a shock but AMAZING. There is lots of sex. It’s very steamy.

If you like florists, ex-marines, biker gangs, bad boys, strong, feisty women, larger women, twists, and steamy sex, you will love this!

The next book in the series is Ken (A Hawaiian Vacation Romance)

MY REVIEW

5meows 3 Purrs(Moderate heat)

Wow! Rachelle Ayala never ceases to amaze me. Every book she writes is so unique and so good. I started reading this, and before I realized it, I was up half the night finishing it.

Bad Boys for Hire Ken is book two in the series and can be read alone as both books are so different, but you would probably enjoy it even more if you read in order since there are recurring characters, and the beginning picks up with Jolie’s wedding.

Jolie is stranded at the altar after her husband-to-be is a no show. Not only does her husband not show, everything that could go wrong does, but butJolie is also a tough woman and puts on a strong appearance at the reception.

Ken is hired to stand in as a groom at a wedding. It is an odd request but he needs the money, so he gathers is crippled sister up and heads to the venue, only to arrive too late. Nikki, Jolie’s friend, meets him at the door and offers him a different job, to go to Hawaii and woo Jolie. When he sees Jolie, he takes the job but turns down the money except for a ticket for his sister for his personal reasons.

I loved this story. It is light-hearted and so funny at times, then there are serious notes as well. I adored Jolie. I can relate to her OCD, and Allergies, though mine is nothing compared to hers. I adored how Ken accepted Jolie as she was and worked so hard to get her to recognize him and fall for him. There are a few really steamy sex scenes. There are a few twists, and I loved the ending.

If you like men for hire, escorts, beach bums, strong, passionate women, sweet romance, funny romance, steamy sex scenes and one heck of a great anytime read, I highly recommend this one.

#sexysaturday~~Tape to Tape @vllocey #hockeyromance #5meows

Hi Ya’ll! Welcome to sexy Saturday. Today I have a sizzling hockey romance for you by one of my favorite romance authors…V.L. Locey. Don’t worry, if you’re not a sports or hockey fan, I think you can still love this book. I do.

I asked Vicki to share a little bit about something  we may take for granted…

Location, location, location!

Many things go into a book aside from the writing, research, editing, proofreading, cover art design, blurbs, and the dreaded synopsis. Plot, character growth, humor, romance, drama, action and setting are just a few of the elements that have to be introduced as seamlessly as possible. Let’s talk about setting for a little bit today.

Since Tape to Tape is about hockey, we can assume that part of the story will take place on the ice. There will also be locker/dressing room scenes. Those are universal settings for just about any good sports romance. It’s once we leave the stadium that our books become more individualized and unique. Dot and Theo both call Philadelphia home, so there are mentions of the city, as well as shopping trips and a visit to a famous theater in the City of Brotherly Love. I feel that touching on the beauty and history of the city adds a flavor to the book. I hope you agree!

Venom defensive coach Dot “The Shadow” West has made a nice life for herself. She’s found a new position on an up-and-coming women’s professional hockey team, her daughter is thriving, she gets along well with her fellow coaches and her players admire and respect her. She’s proud to have accomplished so much by herself. Everything is running smoothly in her life with no help from anyone, thank you very much.

Sadly, there’s one annoying glitch in Dot’s new life, and it’s in the form of good-looking Theo Grier, former Wildcat goalie and co-host of a controversial sports talk radio show based in Philadelphia, home of the Venom. When Dot loses her cool and calls in to spar with Theo on the air her structured and solitary existence takes a sudden unexpected turn. Before she can hip check the smug fool out of her life she somehow ends up working with him on a new talk radio sports program.

Can she defend her heart against the unwanted feelings Theo is stirring up? Or will she continue to guard herself, and her past decisions, against the offensive moves being made by the ex-goalie? The only man to ignite her passions – and ire – in years?

A Little More Tape To Tape

“Security lets you down here?” I asked.

“I’m an old ‘Cat. They love me down here,” he informed me. I walked past him and began to pull on a mitten. “I thought maybe we could grab a cup of coffee and discuss the show next Monday.” That made me pause for a scant moment but just for a moment. I kept walking and dressing. Theo caught up to me with ease. His legs were as long as a thoroughbred’s. “Did you hear me?”

“Yes, I heard you. I then chose to ignore you.” I wrapped a red and black scarf around my neck, nodded at Eddie the security guard stationed by the staff/players entrance, and then stepped out into a freezing cold Philadelphia night.

“You plan on treating me this coldly forever?” Theo asked as I slid past him. If he thought holding the door open for me would chill me out, he was sorely mistaken.

“Probably,” I said with my eyes locked on my blue Honda Pilot. “My grandmother always said that the best way to deal with a wart was to freeze it.”

“Ouch,” Theo chuckled while keeping up with my pace easily. Each breath out clouded in front of my face. “I hope I’m just a finger wart and not an anal wart.”

“Oh, you’re an anal wart. One of the biggest ones that I have ever had the misfortune to encounter,” I parried as my Honda got closer and closer. Theo jumped ahead of me to bar my path. I gave him a lethal glare. He smiled and held out his hand. I eyed it warily as if it were an asp ready to strike.

“Coach West, I think we need to start over,” Theo said as his hand hung in the cold air. I raised my eyes from his big hand to his face. Then I gave him a strong “Please spare me” look. The man didn’t have the sense to stop trying to be sexy. A gust right off an iceberg howled around the Houseman, lifting Theo’s white scarf high into the air behind him. “It’s a pleasure to meet you in person, Coach West. I’m Theo Grier, ex-goalie and world’s largest walking anal wart.”

I snorted and glanced up at the LED parking lot light wobbling overhead.

“Could that have been a smile I saw on ‘The Shadow’s’ face?” Theo asked. I rolled my eyes then shook my head.

“It was a tiny sneeze.”

“Right, a sneeze,” he said with just a hint of skepticism. “Maybe you should shake my hand so you can get out of this nasty cold weather. A hot cup of coffee at the Black Boar Bar & Grill might be just what you need to help thaw out, Coach West.”

“For your information, Mr. Grier, I do not need to thaw out. I’m quite comfortable, toasty warm, hot even,” I replied keeping my arms crossed over my chest.

“Yes, that you are,” Theo said in a vibrating voice that had dropped just a smidgeon. There was something about his voice, the way he held himself, and that damned large hand of his still waiting for mine that made me feel a trifle too warm inside my coat.

“Flattery will get you nowhere, Mr. Grier.” I pushed around him.

“How about honesty then,” he said and then planted his massive self in front of me once again.

“You’re persistent, I’ll give you that,” I sighed.

“When I see something I want, I go after it.”

“And you want me?” I asked.

“Yeah, I want you to shake my hand and join me for coffee,” he countered smoothly. I studied his face then with a huff extended my hand, all toasty warm in my mitten, to him. His fingers curled around mine, making my hand glow like a red coal in a fire pit. We shook slowly, one could have said sensuously, but handshakes with mittens blocking the skin-to-skin can’t be sensual, can they?

My Review

5 meows 4 purrs

Dot is the defensive coach for the Philadelphia Venom women’s team.  She is a single mother and has taken care of herself and Abigail for the past 12 years. She is a strong, fierce woman that takes care of what’s hers and that includes her women on her team.

Theo is a controversial sports reporter. He makes a remark about her team and she calls in and this causes issues with her management. Her punishment is to do a sports show with Theo. The sparks fly. And I do mean fly!

I absolutely loved this book. This is a series but it stands alone pretty well, though you may wonder who a few people are. I suggest you read the first two books but I think you can enjoy this even if you don’t.

The storyline is fun. It is mostly about the difference and the arguing between Theo and Dot. We also get a bit of Maggie and Derrick which I loved since Derrick is my favorite leading man from the Wildcat Series. The characters are amazing. Every one of them. I loved Theo and his strong opinions. I loved Dots strength. I loved Dot’s daughter Abigail the most. She really made the story. I loved how she wanted to be British and spoke that way. It was so much fun. And of course we had cameos from many ‘Cats and Venom books.

If you like hockey, contemporary romance, strong characters, interracial romance, and some very steamy sex scenes you will love this.

Cat’s Meow~~Reviews that Purr~~An Eerie Garden Party

Cat's Meow Reviews That purr books

Hi’Y’all!  Welcome back to  Cat’s Meow ~~Reviews that Purr. Today we are wrapping up our Spring theme with one of my very favorite authors. V.L.Locey writes hockey romances in both M/F and M/M genres but also has some fun Paranormal M/M romances. I love her Lake Eerie shifters series. It’s fun with a touch of mystery and a very unusual shifter. Her main character Tempelton is a skunk shifter. That’s right. Her leading man is a skunk! How fun is that! Since the title to her new release in this series is An Eerie Garden Party, I asked her for something Templeton may serve at his upcoming bash.

V.L.

Nothing says spring like a garden party! Templeton, the leading man in the third Lake Erie shifters books,  not only has to try to solve a duo of mysterious murders, he also has to deal with Mikel,  his loving but Moonstruck life mate who just happens to be the alpha of the Lake Erie pack! Life isn’t easy for a skunk shifter at times, but this garden party recipe is a snap to make and serve for your own soiree, even if it’s not along the shores of a great lake.

MELON COOLER

Title: An Eerie Garden Party

Series: Lake Eerie Shifters 03

Author: V.L.Locey

Genre: Paranormal

Length: Novella (114pgs)

Publisher: Torquere Press (April 13th 2016)

Spring has finally arrived along the shores of Lake Erie and no one is happier than the skunk shifter, Templeton Reed. Now that the snows have melted, he can frolic and play on the grounds of Lupei Manor, the formidable home that he shares with his life partner, Mikel Lupei, the alpha of the Lake Erie werewolf pack. What a pity that his joy is short lived.

Not only does a stranger appear to shake things up in the manor, bodies begin showing up on the grounds as well! Could the newcomer to the pack be the one viciously killing innocent humans and shifters? Or is there a more nefarious force at work lurking just outside the boundaries of the ancient manse that Templeton, Mikel, and their LGBT friends call home?

MY REVIEW

5 meows~~5 Purrs

Templeton finds himself with his hands more than full this full moon with is a lover, the leader of the Eerie pack, a mysterious house guest with big secrets, his parents, planning a garden party, and murders popping up on the property.

If you have read any of the first books in this series, you know that Templeton is a skunk shifter and mated to the alpha of the Lake Eerie pack. If not you know now!  This is a very fun series to read, so it is good to start at An Eerie Halloween, But I feel you can follow along just fine without it. They are short, and lots of fun so why not read them all!

I love all the characters in this book. I love how Rugby is always scaring Templeton by sneaking up on him. It made me laugh every time Templeton would jump! The mystery is like a little paranormal cozy…mysterious with lots of twists set in a paranormal setting with a touch of humor.

There is a lot of sex, but it’s well -written and not overly explicit. There are lots of twists, and the story is fast paced with lots of humor. I highly recommend it!

A Little more Eerie Garden Party

“Son of a human,” Mikel snarled.  He stripped and shifted. I stood with his clothes over my arms, watching the wolf work the scent. He padded to the lake, snuffled the shore intently, and then slowly made his way back to the corpse. I turned my head to stare at Erie when he shoved his head under the bloody sheet to smell the body. The water seemed almost tranquil today. How I wished we were planning our spring fete instead of standing here beside a dead man. Mikel tapping my arm brought my attention from the Great Lake back to him. I handed him his pants.

“So, what can you tell us about this poor man’s fate?”

“He’s human.” Mikel zipped his trousers vehemently. “And he was killed by a large animal, either wolf or bruin. Whoever did this dragged him through the lake to mask the scent. I’ll have to gather the pack to scour the woods. Damnation.”

“Oh dear me,” I sighed. “I suppose the call must be made then.”

Mikel threw his head back and stared at the soft white clouds ambling past. “Yes. We have to notify the Elder counsel. That is standard operating procedure when a human is involved in mystical matters. Damnation!”

I reached out to pat his thick bicep. I wasn’t sure he wanted consolation but I offered it anyway. He placed his hand over mine.

“Let me know when they plan to arrive. I’ll take a long stroll through the woods.”

Mikel’s lip rolled as he turned to look down at me. “I hate that as well. You should be at my side. This mansion is as much your home as it is mine.”

“Yes, well, the times they aren’t a changing as rapidly as needed,” I smiled then snuggled into his wide chest. His arms cinched around me tightly, his smoky shirt smashed between us. My ear rested over his strong heart. “If one of the Elders saw me here it would raise questions. I know we have a lie all in place, but I for one do not wish to put that lie to the test. Better I enjoy the forest for an hour or so while they attend to this mess.”

“I love you beyond words, Templeton,” Mikel said into my black hair. “Someday, I swear, we shall not have to hide our love for each other.”

From your mouth to the Elders’ ears,” I whispered, then tipped my head up for a kiss. We both needed one. Pity it couldn’t be a longer one, but it was tender.
