Snippet Sunday ~~not one but two broken hearts

Snippet Sunday

It’s time again for  Snippet Sunday. The story is nearly complete. I can’t believe it! There have been a few twists. This will be the last snippet from the story but I think next week I may give you a taste of the epilogue.

Here is this week’s snippet. Annie has to spring some news on her best friend, Caleb. Let’s see how he takes it.

“Hey, Caleb. Would you like some lemonade or tea?”
“From the look on your face, I think a shot of bourbon,” He said as he stood back, a forlorn look on his face.
I don’t think I can go through with this. I fix him a glass of tea and sit it on the table.
“ Have a seat why don’t ya?”
“I moved TJ into my room last night.” I went for the ripping off the bandage technique.
“So what does that mean? Is he not going to school?  Is he going to help you run the farm? Are ou moving off with him and selling out?”
I sit dumbfounded. I hadn’t thought any of that over.
“Do you love him? I mean truly love him?”
I can answer that one. “I do love him. I think I need more time and ur love will blossom more as the days go by. I care for him very much.”
“I didn’t want to spring this on you yet, but now you have pushed my hand. Caleb after she drops her news
The ranch is losing too much money. I’ve been covering the deficits. HI love you, Annie. I have loved you since the first day I saw you at school. I watched you marry my best friend because I saw how much you loved him. I wanted those looks for myself. After he had died I did all I could for you and the boys as if you were mine. I always thought someday you would come to me, confess your love.
I didn’t know what to think. I knew he cared for me. Eve loved me. But this. I couldn’t stop the tears from trickling down my cheek. I never wanted to hurt him. I also didn’t know how close I am to losing the ranch.
“You don’t have to lose the farm, Annie. I know how much it means to you. I can even forgive this fling with TJ.”
He reaches into his pocket and brings out a pretty wooden box. He presses it into my hand. Out of reflex, I open it. The ring is beautiful. It has one large chocolate diamond set in the center with Caleb and Steve’s birthstone on one side in a heart and David and Stephens on the other. I can bet the are real stones as well. I ts beautiful
I sat staring at the ring, trying to digest what Caleb had said. I didn’t hear the door open.
I hear a sharp intake of breath and footsteps running up the stairs.

What do you think? Exciting? Sad? Crap?

Snippet Sunday

Snippet Sunday Hi, Y’all! Are ya ready for another snippet? I am still working on Baseball Bats and Cowboy hats. It is exceeding the 50k mark. I had a twist pop up that adds a lot of drama and brings us into TJ’s past. I have skipped down, and this is Chapter 20. In TJ’s view.

“Sorry coach. Annie isn’t answering her phone. I have a strange feeling in my stomach something is wrong.”

“I am sure everything is ok. I need you in your right mind. I will give Caleb a call while you guys warm up. He can try to get hold of her, and when he does, I will let you know.”

“Thanks, Coach.” He is a good man. I am lucky to have him as a coach. And friend.

“Ok guys.  We are past mid-season. We started out full force then you all got a little too self-assured and cocky. Once we had a loss, you all got too defeated. This is a game, but it’s also some of your futures.  We need to get out there and show these guys we are a force to be reckoned with. Simon you have been on fire until a week or so ago. Whatever is bothering you talk to me or work it out? Tonight I want to see that old Simon. The one that shocks everyone that is watching.  TJ you need to get your head out of the clouds and remember this is a team. All of you. If you are not playing for your own futures, paly for the team. Now let’s pray.”

We all form our circle placing our hands on top of each others on a bat. The coach says a quick prayer.

“Ok, guys warm up. TJ I will make that call.”

I watch Coach Rick make his call. It is too quick for my liking. His phone must have rung almost immediately. He answers, nods his head slips it back in his pocket.

The game starts. I can’t focus. Finally, it’s our bat. I notice the coach is avoiding me. That can’t be good.

In the bullpen, Simon corners me.

“Hey what is up with you. I’ve never seen you drop the ball so much.”

“Annie didn’t answer her phone  when I called.”

“Maybe she left it in the kitchen or she was on the road driving back from Vicki’s.”

“Possible. She has never missed calling me or answering my call before a game. I feel like something isn’t right.

Music starts up signaling we are up. I notice coach on the phone again, and then hurriedly grabbing his assistant coach, Harrison Johnson.

“Hey TJ. I need to you come with me to the locker room, please.” The look on his face confirms my suspicions.  Something bad has happened.

Well, what do you think? Does it make you want more?

Snippet Sunday~~#Winner Winner!

Snippet Sunday

Hi, Ya’ll. Can you believe it’s December?  Good news. Despite the crazy month last month.  I am a Winner!

I  made my NaNoWriMo count, but its was a race to the finish line.  Even better news is I am not quite finished with the story. I think I need at least four more chapters and maybe an epilogue since other characters deserve a story.

Writing sex scenes are out of my comfort zone. My Paranormals are about a two-flame story. I amped this up to four though during edits I may damper the heat some. This week I decided to share one of them with you. Annie has decided to take the next step with TJ and see where the relationship goes. They go out on a special date that began with her watching him coach his little league team of boys from the homeless shelter. She sees what a wonderful man he is despite his young age.( If you missed that scene I posted part of it last week. It is hilarious and one of my favorite from the book.)

We barely get in the door when I find myself trapped between the wall and a hard body. He ascends on my mouth our tongues tangoing I try to push him away so we can head to the bed, but my arms are pinned to my side.  He edges one knee between my legs parting them slightly putting us at an angle where his length is rubbing against my hip.

He breaks contact heaving. “Oh hell, I am about to—well-” his olive skin is flushed, lips thick and puffy, brown eyes as dark as coffee. I take this opportunity to take back control and ease him back to the bed, pushing him to the edge.

“You ready to unwrap your present?” I slid his hands to my back. It takes him a moment, but he finally finds the small zipper that keeps the girls trapped in. He slowly tugs it down; eyes trailed to my breasts.  He slowly glides the straps off. He sucks in a deep breath as the white silky demi-bra barely conceals the girls is exposed.

“Holy hell. You are so beautiful” he buries his face in my cleavage. I feel warmth even through the thin fabric as he sucks my nipple through the material. He has a cloth fetish I think. First keeping my panties that first night, now laving over my new bra.  Suddenly I find myself tossed over on the bed with a sweltering TJ over me. He tugs off the dress takes and places it on the chair by the window. He stands to stare at me. I feel a little self-conscious as he begins caressing me with hands and tongue.

“Hey aren’t you a little over-dressed. I want to get my hands on some skin too.”

“I have a little problem.”

“It’s not as little as you think it is.”

I hope you enjoyed this snippet. I would love your thoughts on the sex scene. Is it too explicit? Not enough? What would you like to see more or less of?

If you would like to read more of BaseBall Bats and Cowboy Hats and missed the first three snippets ”

No Turkey left behind

Romance on the menu spring 2015

Thanksgiving is now behind us with Christmas or whichever holiday in December you celebrate looming in front of us. If  like most of us you had a little too much food left over.  I had very little ham since the next day all the kids wanted ham sandwiches for lunch.  I use everything even the ham bone so I tossed that in a pot of beans. The ham salad i wanted did not come to pass…maybe after Christmas.

I did have a lot of turkey and stuffing left and some mashed potatoes.  Mom always made us croquettes with the leftovers and since i was doing traditional this year I thought  I would too. None of my grandkids had ever heard of it. I served that with my beans and leftover cranberry relish.

here is my recipe

2 cups dressing (or stuffing)

2 cups of mashed potatoes

3 cups of chopped leftover turkey(I used up my dark meat for this)

2 eggs

I cup of panko or regular bread crumbs( I like the panko for the extra crunch)

oil for frying ( I used my deep fryer)

Mix first 3 ingredients into a dough roll into 24 ( or more balls or oblongs)

roll in egg then breadcrumbs drop into fryer. do not overcrowd drain on paper towels.  I took my jellied cranberry sauce melted it in the microwave for a sauce you can serve with leftover gravy as well. The grandkids loved them and the few leftover( that was supposed to be my lunch the next day the oldest and her friends devoured for breakfast .

For the breast, I was planning a shepherd’s pie or  tetrazzini  but I didn’t have much left so I ground  it added  a boiled egg, some onion, celery and had a small bowl of turkey salad. Not as good as the  ham salad I wanted but  good none the less. I wiped my fridge in one day of the leftovers.

Did you have a lot of leftovers?  Do you have any recipes you make with them?

Snippet Sunday

Snippet Sunday

Hi, ya’ll! It’s time for another Snippet Sunday. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving or if you don’t celebrate a great weekend. It’s been busy here. I finally have got caught up with my story, and it’s possible iI may be able to reach that goal by the First. I am going to skip way down the story to chapter 18. I wrote this yesterday, and it was so fun I had to share! Remember this is rough and hasn’t been beta-read proof read or edited!

Baseball Bats and Cowboy Hats( copyright 2015)

The kids are arriving as we pull up. Simon and I have the field first today. He is following us. I think he is going to stay in town for a while today. I saw him doing a few web searches for Edenfield and a couple towns close by. He promised we wouldn’t run into each other. I’m not worried about him. It’s the town’s people I worry about. She is concerned they will think she is cradle robbing I assured her she doesn’t look over 30, and I look older than my age. It didn’t help reassure her much.

We walk over to the group of young boys.

“Hey, guys! This is Annie.”

“Is this the lady you been telling us about every day?”

“OOOh she is purrrttty!” there are lots of cat-calls and whistles.

“What have you been saying TJ?” She whispers in my ear, a concerned look on her beautiful face

“He says you have horses!” one boy shouts.

“And goats.” another runs over and tackles another, Sim pulls up and runs down the field to help control the hoard.

“And Chickens!” This elicits lots of laughter. A few start walking around with their hands on their butts like tail feathers making funny clicking and clucking sounds a couple bobs their heads and waddle. Chaos ensues as they act out farm animals one gallops off as another chase him around the bases. TJ and Simon hoard them up. A tall, broad young man runs over blowing a sharp whistle. The boys all line up listening aptly to Simon and the other man.

“When Couch T talks about you he smiles big like a silly Jack=-o=lantern one of the boys said. Several began giggling.

“Noo Jack-o-lanterns are scary. Like a funny clown.” This one made a big silly face. They all started laughing.

“Sorry about that.” TJ apologizes. Not a great start to the day.  I told them about the farm. I was going to ask if later on you would let them come out for a field trip. I see that isn’t a good idea,’

I think that’s a great idea TJ you work it out with the counselors and home supervisors. They will be escorted, and we have the guys it will be fun. We can have a picnic by the pond let them fish.”

“Really? You’re amazing.”

“TJ are you gonna flirt all morning or come coach these guys.”

“I better get busy. Oh, that’s Ace Clemons’s he is our EMT we have to have one for each team.”

I hope you enjoyed the snippet I think this is one of my favorite scenes ( besides the love scenes) Wish me luck I only have today and tomorrow to hit my 50 k I don’t think that will finish the story so I will be working on it still next week.
