Cayuga Cougars

V.L. Locey

M/M Erotic  Hockey Romance

August Miles has the world on a string professionally.

Augie, as his friends and teammates call the unassuming young goaltender, is on the fast track to the pros. The starting goalie for the Cayuga Cougars, he has a year or two in Cayuga to hone his skills and all his career dreams will have come true. Pity his personal life isn’t riding the same high. He’s the only one among his group of friends without that special someone to call his own.

Until he meets Salvatore Castenada at a lakeside party. The attraction is white-hot and more than a little wonderfully overwhelming for the romantically inexperienced goalie. August quickly discovers that Sal is everything he’s dreamed of in a man: mature, settled, sinfully handsome, and filled with gentle humor. Sal is also HIV positive.

Will Sal’s revelation about his status end this budding relationship before it can even begin? Or will the two men be able to handle the challenges life—and a championship run for the Cougars—throws at them?

MY REVIEW

Once again V.L. Locey has knocked another one out of the ballpark or should I say into the net! I simply love how V.L. isn’t afraid to approach touchy social issues. This one, in particular, being HIV.

August Miles is a charming character that is closeted, though he wonders why since there are players on his team openly gay. He meets Sal at a graduation party for Heather, the baby momma to Victor one of Augie’s teammates.

Sal is a transportation orderly at the hospital and a close friend of Heather’s. Sal and Augie hit it off right away and their romance develops quickly but will Sal’s secret be too much for Augie?

As usual, all of the characters are well-developed, charming, quirky and fun. We get another look at Vic and Dan and also Mario and Lila.
The topic as I mentioned is dealing with an HIV positive lover and I learned a lot. I didn’t want to put this book down once I started!

If you like interesting characters, Hockey players, Orderlies, a sweet romance with a touchy subject, coming out a spicy romance with some hot man-sex you will like this.
If you are not a sports fan don’t let that stop you. The hockey does not overpower the story and does add flavor!

How about a little more Open Net? (R-Rated )

Several days later, trying to be nonchalant about things, I stood outside his door, empty container in my hand, features schooled not to reflect how scared I was.

He looked shocked to see me on his doorstep. “Hey,” he said.

I held up the empty dish.

His gaze darted to the container, then back to me, a smile tugging at the corner of his sensual mouth. “Looking for a refill or something more?”

“Both.”

He stepped aside to let me enter. I paused just inside the front door, turning to look at him after he shut it.

“I’d like to have more,” I said, and held out the container like some sort of orphan in a musical.

“More what?” he asked, and I heard the uncertainty in his voice.

“More food and more you.”

“Are you sure, August?”

I nodded.

He gently took the container, his eyes locked with mine. “Are you one hundred percent sure? Maybe you should take more time. I’m not a prime dating candidate for you. I’m seropositive and I’m fifteen years older than you are. I can almost guarantee you that some of your friends are going to be against us seeing each other.”

“I don’t need more time and I don’t need friends who would be so judgmental. Yes, I’m one hundred percent sure. I’ve spent days reading, watching videos, and then reading more. I even talked with a medical professional. I know what I’m going to be facing—what we’re going to be facing.”

He tossed the container onto a small table at the end of the sofa. “We can never have unprotected sex. Ever. Not even once.”

“I know,” I said as want began pumping through my veins.

“If a condom breaks you could get infected.” He stared deep into my eyes.

“I know,” I replied. “I know all the bad things that can happen. I still want to date you.”

“No, you just think you know all the bad things, Aug. There’s so much you don’t know.” He sounded sad and weary.

“Then I’ll learn. Sal, I want to be with you, okay? I mean, if you don’t want to be with me, then that’s fine. I’ll just leave and you’ll never have to look at my dumb face ever—”

Sal stepped up to me without a word and pushed my back against the wall. A shocked grunt escaped me right before his mouth dropped over mine. He ran his tongue over the seam of my mouth. I let him in. He was powerful, possessive and hungry. His tongue slipped around mine as his hands found the edge of my shirt.

Breaking the kiss, he jerked my shirt upward, not caring that it caught under my chin. He just tugged harder to get the neckband free. Once the material popped free, he grabbed the shirt with both hands and held my arms over my head, the soft cotton keeping my hands off him.

“I should tell you to leave now, but I want you too bad to be noble,” he growled.

He captured my mouth again, this time letting his body lean in to me from chest to knees. My fingers slipped out of the T-shirt and I pushed them between his. Sal gyrated against me. His hard cock slid over mine. I sucked in a heated breath. He moaned, then began feasting on my neck, collarbone, and finally a nipple. He slipped his hands out of my grip and his palms, flat to my arms, slowly slithered downward.

A new Year, New goals

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already the 4th day of the New Year. It’s also my Birthday.  This year I decided to bake myself a cake. The jury is still out on whether it will be Carrot, Texas sheet cake or Boston cream cake. All my favorites LOL I am leaning on the Boston Cream cake also known as a Boston Cream Pie since it is what mom always made for me. It will depend on how I feel that one has several steps.

I didn’t make resolutions this year. I figured to try something different and make small monthly goals. This month is mainly gearing everything up and getting ready so I can begin.

I have worked on my craft room and should have it all organized and labeled by the end of the week.  If I do, I will share photos.

I hope to do a room a week to get the clutter out and organization set in. Some rooms may not take so long others may take longer. I will see how far I get with this in January and what needs to be moved to February. I am taking it small steps at a time.

I am also cleaning files on my computer. I got the photos halfway done yesterday and plan to finish today. Then I will work on other document files till I had it all clean and backed up.

On my job front, I am determined to get out one book. I hope for at least three, but the small goal is one and go from there.  I am finishing the edits on Love Bites, to get back to the editor. Then I hope to finish Baseball bats and Cowboy Hats and the Spinoff MMM that goes with it. I am going to try a 30-day thing like I did with NaNo. If I can write 50 k in 30 days surely, I can self-edit it and send to a Beta in that time as well.  If all goes accordingly, I hope to have something out by summer.  I have several books in nearly finished status in my files, so I will see what is next if I manage to stay focused and the beta and editor doesn’t find too much wrong with those three.

On my blogging, I am cutting back. For now. I have cut my guest posts/reviews out except for a few friends. I am still reviewing, and you can find my reviews at TTC Books and More.  She has both mine and her reviews and monthly giveaways.  I will have a Teaser Tuesday still and Serenity Sunday. I am thinking about a week in review where I tell you about what books I have read and listened to, but haven’t quite figured that post out yet.

I am also cutting down on my email time by adding it with my walking on the treadmill.  What I can’t get through during this period I delete. That’s newsletters, recipes, free ebooks, etc. So far I have done this every day since Saturday.

All of this will free up my afternoons so that I can keep up my house and do crafts. By summer I hope to have a few crafts done to sell and set up a website and Facebook page for that. DO you have any name suggestions? I am considering Cat’s Crafty Corner.

That’s my plans for January is mostly organization and planning for the next few months.

Did you make resolutions? Do you think small monthly goals is a good idea?

Writing Romance A-Z~~ N, O and especially P

Writing Romance A – Z

Hi, everyone! I know I haven’t been blogging lately.  Life happened, and I fell into a bit of depression. I’m not looking for pity, but I have disabilities that sometimes hit like a Mack truck. I am on medication and mostly controlled, but there is no cure for seizures and my back pain is chronic.  I thought about giving up the writing, the blogging, all of it.  I have made a lot of changes to make things less overwhelming. That is what you haven’t seen much on the blog lately.

I am going to finish my writing A-Z. Then I’ll decide what’s next.

So now we are at N.   The first thing pops in my mind is Naked.  Difficult to write romance without getting naked.  I also like the spelling nekkid. I don’t use it much, but it’s cute in a western among cowboys or little kids. Sometimes we need a bit of humor, and odd spellings add that.

I love the word negligée.  The word alone stirs images of flimsy, sexy, romantic nighties and underwear.  What can be more romantic than that?

And of course naughty.  I think that speaks for itself.

Let’s move on to the letter O.  Only. Being the Only one the only man in the heroine or hero’s life.  The One. That can work in contemporary romance or in paranormal where they find their mate.  In my current WIP, my main young man is very different. He is only 23, but he has high morals and saving himself for the ONE. He says his mom told him he would know in his heart.  I also like the word Ominous. It is a great word for paranormal, supernatural or Romantic mystery/suspense.

I love writing Paranormal romance. It’s not all I write, but I love-making new worlds, creating new characters that don’t exist, giving them powers, but making them likable or human as well.  My first foray into writing was paranormal or urban fantasy.  I have learned so much since then that I think will make that series better. My dream back then was to be the next Kim Harrison. I have two file cabinets with binders of notes handwritten and some in chapters and drafts. I am considering pulling this out and reorganizing it, perhaps working on it next year.

I have another book called Dark Magick that I had planned to publish last Halloween, but my beta found a significant loophole, and I think this may become a series as well.

This brings me to a Trilogy that I also have nearly done.  It’s called Love Bites…First Bite. An urban fantasy.  It’s also vampires.  The first book began as an 8-thousand-word short story. I rewrote it into a 23k novella then decided it needed a bit more, and it is now a trilogy. I am sending it today to my last Beta then after we get done with my editor for a final look over. I am ready to make the leap and let this baby go. I won’t say when it will be out since that will depend on how much my Beta and Editor find, but it’s a big possibility it may be out this year or early next.  At least I have a plan. (see I slipped in another p-word)LOL

Do you like Paranormal stories? What are your favorite types? What do you look forward to in a new paranormal book? What do you hope you won’t find there?

Writing Romance A-Z

Writing Romance  A_Z

F

Hi Y’all. Welcome back to Writing Romance A-Z. Today’s letter is the letter F.  I am also doing things a bit different than the previous posts. Instead of long, boring lists that sound like a geeky encyclopedia, I am choosing a few words that I like to see in romances and maybe a few I dislike.

First of all is friend. I like this word for obvious reasons. We all need and rely on friends. If you are reading this, i consider you a friend. Use to a friend was a person we grew up with or a neighbor or co-worker or anyone we spent one n one time with. Now with new technlogy,  we can have friends in other states and even other countries. We can even see these people with apps like on Facebook or Skype. I have a dear friend in England that I miss a lot. We need to get back on skype and catch up.

As a writer, I love a good friends to lovers story, or a second chance where something went wrong with friends and the end up years later in the same town and maybe more. And of course, we have to friends wth benefits as well.

This one may not be a real word but it is widely used now. Furbabies. I have several of my own, and most of my stories include some kind of pet.

I like futile or futility.  I guess since I lean to the optimistic side I liked to have something that seems futile in a story and proved wrong.  Just when it all looks like things are hopeless something occurs to turn the tide.  The situation no longer seems hopeless!

Then there is fertility. This makes for some good plot bunnies.  It can make a story sad, happy or even unbelievable ( if you write paranormal and incorporate M/M Preg— which I like).  This also ties in with Families. A story isn’t complete without family whether it ends up only the two main characters facing life alone or families that support or toss someone out creating a plot. But the family is there. Or maybe a crime family, mafia stories and motorcycle clubs have become a big thing recently.

We can’t live without food and neither can our characters. And flowers make great gifts and are so romantic. One of my characters is a big garden and surrounds herself with flowers and also flower in art.

Words I do love in a romance are fine, food, fresh, flaming, flushed, fiesty, frisky, and freaky. ]These are great to describe people or situations. I also like flaming for several reasons. Not just to describe hot but a cute little twink in a LGBT story as well.  I know there is controversy over that, but I like a pretty flamer for a touch of humor at times. I am not saying every Gay character I write is anything close to that because most of them are not. I am not putting anyone down. I love the vitality and color you can get from this character.

There is one word I debated on bringing up. I am not a fan of it, but in writing adult romance, I found it’s hard to ignore. And that’s the F word.  I avoided it in books for a while but then decided f I wanted a more adult audience, shouting out freak or oof or effing in heated sex scenes just didn’t cut it.  So,  Yes in some of my stories  I do say fuck.  I don’t fill the story with it but in appropriate places it works.

And I will finish with forever ( see what I did? I snuck in an extra!) I love a happy ever after and forever friends, forever lovers.

Do you require a happy ever after( forever) or is a Happy For now work? I am good with both depending on the story. If it is a series, a HFN is fine. A stand alone I prefer forever.   Did I leave out an F word that you love in a romance?  What are your feelings on the bad F word Mentioned ( I know I need my mouth washed with soap)

Remember…If you can dream it ~~You can do it!

Writing Romance A-Z ~~The Letter A

Hi, Y’all welcome to my new feature Writing Romance A -Z. Last month you may have seen many blogs writing daily posts using the alphabet. I thought instead of daily post I would do one weekly. Since I write contemporary romance in multiple genres, I will be using romance as the topic.

This week we have the letter A. SO many things spring to my mind. The first is Amore. Many things pop into m mind when I hear this word.  It is an Italian Noun that means Love or great adoration. It sounds so hot when you hear  My Amore.  So much sexier than just my love. I also think of this song…

Adoration brings other words to mind such as Adore—another way to say, love.

Adorable is another good A word. It is an Adjective that means inspiring much affection, delightful, charming, cute, cuddly and much more.  I love using this word mostly to describe animals and babies.

Alluring is another one I like it sounds more mysterious than saying pretty or beautiful.

With her red hair like a brilliant sunset and emerald green eyes, she is alluring.

Though not the most handsome man in the club, something about him allures me like a  powerful spell.

Angel Is another word that could mean so much. If you write paranormal, your character could truly be an Angel.  Or you could use it like Amore and adore above and say something like my angel.

Awesome. I know this is on the overused and not to use the list, but sometimes it just works. I like it.  Things sometimes are awesome so why not say so? * tear the list up and tosses in trash*

Attractive. Another good word or description. Also other forms of it such as attracts or attraction.

Aggressive or Aggression.  He pulls me in his arms and kisses me aggressively. His aggression to  Jordy, my best friend, is completely out of line.  To me, the words show some hidden passion or jealousy.

Alimony. There is lots you can do with this in romance.  It could be a catalyst or a second chance.  The MC could be a lawyer helping a client and fall in love. Lots of options.

Arousal.

Aphrodisiac. *hmmm Clears throat*  This is something that inspires lust or desire.  It could be a food drink drug or anything that causes excitement.  The word originates from Aphrodite the Greek Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. There are many stories about her, and she would be a perfect character for romance.

I can’t mention Aphrodite without mentioning Adonis. He was loved by Aphrodite,  killed while hunting by a wild boar and restored to Aphrodite from Hades for a part of each year. Isn’t that a sad story?  A remake on that could be a lovely romance.  We ( us romance writers) also use the word Adonis to describe a very handsome young man.

I hope you enjoyed my first edition of Writing romance A-Z.  Do you have a favorite form te list above? Is there one I missed that you like?

As always~~If you can dream it~~you can do it.
