Cat’s Meow~~#Reviews That Purr~~Trainwreck by Michele Michael Rakes~~

Cat's Meow Reviews That purr books

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Michele Micheal “Mikey” Rakes, author of Trainwreck the series.

Hi Mikey, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

I’m a Pacific Northwest native who has been climbing trees to sit and read books since I was small. Love storytelling and had always dreamed of being an author…or an Egyptologist…and then a paleontologist. Archaeology was to be my dream job, but never quite made it there in this life. Perhaps in the next?

Trainwreck the series is about a guy who is beyond down on his luck. He’s a wreck, but he can’t even get killing himself right. A police detective, specifically an undercover narcotics officer who has been accused of stealing contraband, Vincent Sweetwater is forced to work homicide until the investigation is complete.

Meanwhile, his home life is in shambles. He lives with his estranged wife, but sleeps in his dead daughters bed so he can feel close to her…he can hear her voice at times, and can smell her on the sheets.

We meet him the night before his first day back to work and when the day comes, he’s confronted with a case involving a missing person found dead on a beach. Vince hates dead bodies and isn’t happy with his boss for sending him out on the case. A case which pulls Vince back into his former life. A secret life involving a gay man and his skills with a whip. To further compound things, Vince is punishing himself through his addiction to sex and masochism.

Books One and Two are out and I’m editing number three currently. The entire series is written, plus a sequel called Surviving Adam.

  • Talk to us about your characters in this book. What makes them unique?

Vincent Sweetwater is a masochistic sex addicted tough guy from a shitty background and all he wants is to either be dead or have his daughter back. Confronted with the fact he can’t be dead or have his daughter back, he tries to mend all the pieces of himself. His foster brother, Nick Sarafino, followed him into law enforcement, is his partner on the job. Nick helps to keep Vince sane. Mica Sweetwater, Vince’s wife and fellow foster child, just wants her husband back. She’s always known she wasn’t enough for Vince, but that has never mattered to Mica. They both struggle to move on after the death of their only child.

A mysterious man from Vince’s past, Gregory Dunne, cares about Vince, but for his own sanity he leaves the man alone. Until Vince show’s on doorstep and can no longer be ignored.

The serial killer Vince hunts, is also a man from his past, and Vince can’t quell the feelings the murder victims bring to a boil inside him.

  • What was one of the most surprising things you learned in getting your book from start to publish?

Well, Trainwreck was written in six months in 2010 and was 480k words. The time it took to edit and get comfortable with breaking it up, I wrote two short stories and two novels. Saving Kane and Fourth and Long were published with Loose Id. Two more novels are scheduled for that series, one of which is 80% complete.

So, I guess the surprising thing is there are folks who want to read my stories.

  • Have you ever gone to a convention? If so, how was it? If not, do you think it’s something you’d like to do in the future?

I’ve been to the one in Seattle. It was fun. I wasn’t a participant, but perhaps one of these days I will go a convention as a participant.

  • Would you like to be a full-time writer?

Oh hell yeah, but right now I’ve got bills to pay and mouths to feed. Ultimately, it would be a dream come true. There are so many stories chomping at the bit to get outta of my nugget, but my job is a demanding full time affair. Over- time is mandatory and my writing has to take a back seat.

  • Design the ultimate pizza.

I made the ultimate pizza this weekend. Homemade pizza dough with basil and spices mixed in, with a basil pesto/light marinara sauce, and 6 Italian cheese blend. The final topper is the mozzarella. I use a 50/50 mix of fresh mozzarella and low-moisture skim; makes a perfect cheese pizza. Then I topped it with fresh minced garlic, diced tomatoes, and purple onion.

Hi y’all! Welcome back to Cat’s Meow~~Reviews that Purr. Today we have with us Michel Michael Rakes with Trainwreck. I chose this because I wanted something a bit out of my comfort zone. Something a bit grizzly and I do like a good mystery/ suspense from time to time. When I read this blurb I had to read the book.

Detective Sergeant Vincent Sweetwater hates dead bodies. That’s why he’s an undercover narc and not a homicide dick. So why is he standing on a sandy beach in California staring at a lifeless body—oh yeah, the suicide attempt. Lieutenant Hanson is making a statement. Something about life worth living. Shows what he knows.

As Vince examines the tortured body, he feels an empathy and déjà vu for the victim, her wounds are similar to scars he has only a vague memory receiving. An intense desire to find her killer fills his queasy belly as a dark game of cat and mouse begins.

The young woman’s death forces Vince back into a secret life dominated by sex, perversion, and sadomasochism. Estranged from his wife he still loves and longing for the man who possessed him once, Vince buries his torment deep inside meaningless sex.

A little more Trainwreck—I had three to pick from and I chose the most morbid.

The room fell silent and he turned back to the freezer. His hand hovered lovingly over the lid before he lifted it. “Hey, pretty. I know what to do with you now. You’re going to meet the son of an old friend.”

The girl had dead-fish eyes. Half-lidded, green once upon a time, they stared unseeing from a frost glittered corpse. Hair like sunburnt grass pricked her high cheekbones and full lips. He smoothed it back stiffly. The realization this would be the last time he felt her youthful body rushed through him like a phantom out of the dark. He was almost surprised at her lack of life.

On a shelf across the room was a black tarp, which he spread on the floor. With singular effort he struggled to get the partially frozen corpse from the freezer. She landed with a sick thud. The man apologized to her as though she were still living, stroking her stiff hair soothingly. He started to roll her in the black plastic, cocooning her in a final darkness, to be reborn from the chrysalis in the morning sunlight. Only then would Vincent Sweetwater come to know her and whom she represented.

Seven Tears At High Tide by C. B. Lee Interview and Giveaway

Banner300x250

Hi Ya’ll! Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing C.B. Lee, author of Seven Tears at High Tide.Hi C.B., thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Hello, thank you for interviewing me today, I’m quite honored to be here. I’m C.B., I’m grew up in California and I’m very passionate about writing, hiking, and traveling. I’m a first generation Asian American and I’m happy to be introducing some characters whose backgrounds are like my own. My first novel is Seven Tears at High Tide, a love story between Kevin and Morgan, who meet because of Kevin’s magical wish for a summer love and then have to deal with some complex choices when summer is over.

Is there a certain type of scene  that’s harder for you to write than any others? Love? Action? Romance? Tragedy?

The hardest for me is probably any type of angst or very heavy emotional scenes; particularly because I do write with emotion. I draw a lot on personal experiences to write, and I have to put myself directly into what the character is feeling, so often times my own mood will be directly affected. It’s really difficult if I’m not up for feeling that way, but I try my best.

What do you think makes a good story?

Emotion, definitely. I think good characters and an interesting plot will get you quite a bit of a ways but I think how all of it comes together and makes you feel is the best part.

Do you hear from readers much? What do they say?

This is my first novel! I’m looking forward to what readers might say in the future.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

Seven Tears is my first novel, so it has to be my favorite for now. We’ll see as time goes by if that title will go to any of my other works.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I love traveling, particularly hiking and backpacking and rock climbing! It’s not an everyday type activity, at least the traveling far bit, but I’m lucky to live in an area that’s abundant in beautiful scenery, whether I feel like heading up into the mountains, or to the sea, or to the desert. Some of my favorite hikes are along the coastal bluffs— catching the sunset as it falls below the horizon, dipping below the waves, canyons and cliffs catching fire with color. Or I might enjoy heading up in the mountains, with the constant sound of bubbling brooks coursing along rocks, streams full of fresh rainwater from the season, damp leaves on the trail, a cool wind at my back and a view of the city below.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Now for a little about the book!

MY REVIEW

5 Meows

This was a lovely story about young love, broken hearts, and hope.

Kevin remembered an old folk Lore Story his mom told him about Seven Tears on the High Tide and in desperation he crys  into the sea and makes his wish for Love for the summer, to hold hands, to not hide, to do things he enjoys. A seal shows up and makes him smile then soon after a young boy appears on his doorstep confessing he is his boyfriend.

Everything about this story is charming, from the characters, storyline to the romance. It is very sweet and clean, magical and very funny, with a touch of suspense near the end. I absolutely adored Morgan. He is naive, sweet  and confident i himself. I loved that the author put in that he was a bit chubby faced and  not a six pack body image and still very confident.

If you like sweet romances, Young adult stories, charming characters, and selkies  you must read this one!

RC   A little more Seven Tears at High Tide They wander into the house, wipe their wet feet on the welcome mat, climb up the stairs and giggle as they pass Ann’s bedroom. She’s dancing with her headphones on, oblivious to the open door, swaying to the beat. In Kevin’s bedroom, he quickly scrounges up some clean shirts and shorts. “Here, you can wear this,” he says, handing an outfit to Morgan and then ducking into his bathroom to change. He peels off the wetsuit and hangs it up in his shower, then leans his surfboard carefully against the wall, eyeing the crack. He’ll have to fix it tomorrow. When he returns, Morgan is holding onto the wet board shorts, wearing the outfit Kevin gave him. He looks curiously at the rock collection prominently displayed on Kevin’s bookshelf. “These are beautiful,” he says. “Here, I’ll take that,” Kevin says, holding out his hand for the bedraggled board shorts to hang in his shower. He’s certain now that they’re the ones from the lifeguard’s lost and found. Kevin’s starting to worry that Morgan doesn’t have any other clothes, but he doesn’t know how to bring it up. Money can be a touchy subject. Morgan holds Kevin’s favorite specimen, a piece of green olivine on basalt. Kevin once almost convinced Ann it was an avocado roll—it certainly looks like one, bright green speckled with sesame seeds, wrapped in dark seaweed. “That’s from Mexico. My family went on vacation to Baja last year, and I got that out of an old volcano.” He tries his best to describe the sweltering heat and the excitement of finding geodes and cracking them open with a hammer. Morgan listens in rapt silence as Kevin talks about the find and tilts the olivine so it catches the light. He sets it back in its spot behind its label, slowly so as not to disturb the other specimens, and Kevin is quietly pleased with Morgan’s careful appreciation. “I changed my mind,” Kevin blurts out. “About what?” “I do want this to be a date. For us, to do that,” he says, blushing. “I like you. A lot.” Morgan’s face breaks into a bright, happy smile. “And what do we do differently, for this to be a date?” Kevin can feel the heat on his cheeks. “We can hold hands, if you like. Um, or kiss, if you want to. But we don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. I’m fine just hanging out and watching a movie with you.” Morgan tilts his head and steps closer. “I want to,” he says, not specifying what, but Kevin knows immediately. It’s just the quickest brush of lips, but Kevin feels it all the way to his toes. A warm curl of excitement blooms throughout his body, and Morgan’s mouth is warm and wet against his. It’s not like any kiss he’s had, chaste and sweet and over in a second, and yet his heart is still pounding after Morgan leans back. He’s close enough for Kevin to be able to count the eyelashes dark against his cheek. Morgan ducks his head and asks, “Was that okay?” Kevin’s a little dazed, but he finds his voice. “Yeah. Yeah, that was great.”

Fame and Fortune…Excerpt , Review, Giveaway

Fame and Fortune
An All Cocks Story– book #2
Love should be multiplied, not divided!

Welcome to the All Cocks house!

All Cocks house

Hello everyone, and thank you, Cathy, for hosting me today. I thought I’d share some insight into the house on Mamaroneck Island that Victor, Andrew, and Mattie call home. The models refer to it as the All Cocks house, because it is their home base outside of the studio in the city. When I started writing the series, I knew I wanted to base it in NYC, but I wanted the throuple to have a home away from all the madness in the city. I researched outlying areas that were driving distance to the city while being quaint and maybe a little secluded. I settled on Mamaroneck because I wanted a house on the water, I mean how much fun will I have writing scenes that are set on water?!

Back of the All Cocks house

An excerpt from Fame and Fortune

When Victor first brought Andrew out to the house they now owned on Mamaroneck Island he thought it was too much, too big for just the two of them. Victor had come prepared for that reaction, though, explaining his plan as they walked from room to room. How Victor wanted their small company to become an extended family of sorts. The models could stay with them and shoot out at the house sometimes. The attic could be their office away from the office. “There are seven bedrooms Victor, what the fuck are we going to do with seven bedrooms?” Andrew asked, still a little overwhelmed at the thought of investing in such a large home.

image15_original

“We set one up for shooting scenes here, the other we use for models. They stay for shoot or if they need home. Fame, fortune and a family Andrew, this is what I am wanting for you, for us.” Victor led Andrew into the master bedroom to a picnic basket, blanket and pillows all set up beside the fireplace where a fire was already burning beautifully. They ate and talked, Andrew finally coming around to the idea and sharing things he wanted to do to the home with Victor.

Yeah it’s a big ass house, but Victor holds to his promise to fill it. Before it’s all said and done, I think they might even have a few little ones running up and down the stairs of their large estate. But that’s waaaaaaaay down the road. For now I think this throuple will be happy with the different models that come and stay at the house sporadically, their extended family of sorts. Can’t you just imagine the holiday parties? I can and I want to go!

Victor Dimir
moved to America with his traditional Romanian parents when he was just a
child. His Romani parents taught him their traditions and how to be a shrewd
business man, but it was the attention of a classmate at school that taught
teenage Victor about his sexuality. When he came out to his parents he knew it
would be difficult for them to understand, but he never expected them to disown
him.
Andrew Jones
grew up with a single mom and his grandmother teaching him about life, he had
an absentee father at best. The only thing the man ever did for Andy that stuck
was buy him a camera for his thirteenth birthday. When Andrew went off to
college on a scholarship to study photo journalism, he wound up falling in love
with his Romanian roommate.
They became
inseparable and wound up starting their own business together: a gay porn
website where people could go and watch romantic gay porn instead of the rough
and tough, or wham bam thank you man crap that was flooding the internet at
that time. After ten years together they were still perfectly happy, not
realizing something was missing, until they met a broken young man that needed
a family.
Matthew Carlson
was homeless, jobless and broken. At sixteen he ran away from home after being
brutally assaulted by several young men that he thought were his friends, and
then being told he brought it on himself for being gay by his parents. Matthew
has done a lot of things these last few years just to get by. When he finds the
flyer for All Cocks, he decides to call and see where it leads. What has he got
to lose?
Matthew has deep
rooted scars that aren’t visible on the outside to most. But when he walks into
All Cocks, both Victor and Andrew can see the darkness in his eyes; they also
see him. Can three men that did not know they needed each other get past the
stigma of society to find a place of happiness, together?
*Advisory warning: This story contains a scene of
sexual assault.*

My review for  Fame and Fortune

Meows 4  Purrs ( so hot you need a cold shower)

Fame and fortune is a very sweet romance between three loving men.  Though Victor and Andrew have been partners for ten years, they both felt something for the sweet angelic looking boy Mattie when he showed up for a job. Both men could tell he was broken and not ready for porn shoots. When Mattie finally insists they set him up, and none of them was prepared for Mattie’s reaction. Now Mattie has to tell Victor and Andrew about his past abuse.

I must warn you if you’re susceptible to triggers, there are back flashes of gang rape and date rape drugs. I will say That TM handled it with finesse, and the story has a lot of light moments and sensual loving sex to soften the harsh scenes.

I loved all the characters and the main storyline of the coming to term with the change in their relationship.

I will say that the story begins moving fast and skipping quickly through years. I would have liked to have seen more of the things that happened than short paragraphs telling us about them. There were a few places where the author told us of things that happened between other characters ( from the first book) that I personally felt should have been left out and this book the first. Now having said that; I still loved this story and all of these men and cannot wait for the next book–Jon and Kory–and all the others. (Yes I read all the small print at the end that tells what’s coming soon!)

I highly recommend this if you like gay new adult romance, angst, threesomes, menage, hot man-sex and allover fun, sexy romance!
