A walk in the park

Every day Dad and I try to take a morning walk. Sunday it was rainy but in the afternoon it cleared up.

The Mark Twain riverboat. It runs  hour long cruises and some 2 hour dinner cruises.

We usually take a different route around town or by the river each day. There Is so much to see. We can walk up town,to the river or climb steps ot the lighthouse. to day we went to the river and the park.

When we got back we looked at his flowers he planted in the back.

He decided we needed to trim the rose bush out of his new plant and tied it up. Since he can’t bend or chance anything getting in his eye I got the honors of working with the testy rose bush. I finally managed getting it  tied up to dad’s liking. I  got  squishy mud between my toes, so when we went in I had to wash the bottoms of our shoes.

I did however grab me a few of the daisies he has growing and found a pretty blue soup bowl, using the technique I saw on TV today

DSC00241I produced this lovely  bouquet.

I will miss this when I get home since I won’t have this luxury.

Do you have a pretty park you like walking in?

A drunk chicken and tired me

Earlier in the week dad was telling me about a dish he remembered growing up that his friends dad made a lot.

All he could remember was it was while and good.

We got a whe chicken the other day. I have around 5 dollars or so for it at Aldis. We got a bottle of white wine at County Market . I got Berringers  Chenin Blanc. I gave around 6dollars for that.

Here is how I made mine.

I preheated the oven to 400 degrees

wash your chicken and pull the skin back leaving it in tack rub meat liberally with your choice of seasonings I used a little salt an Italian blend, sage and garlic. Then pull skin back down and rub with same seasoning.  I then brushed with melted butter and roasted 1 hour breast side down.

meanwhile, peel and quarter 1 medium potatoe per person into a bowl. Cover with water and salt liberally. Get a crusty loaf of French or garlic bread ready to bake.

After Chicken has baked an hour , drain potatoes, push chicken to end of pan add potatoes cook about 30 minutes until potatoes are almost tender now turn chicken breast side up add wine and cook about 30 minutes more take out to set while bread cooks.

I served the au jus in a dish.

Dad was very pleased  at the outcome

carve at table for dramatic effect or cut up in the kitchen whichever you prefer. Since it was just dad and I I cut us each a leg and thigh and wrapped the rest . I will either make chicken salad or chicken enchiladas

Be sure you have a cork screw! Dad didn’t and I had to walk downtown in search of one. Luckily the Mainstreet Marketplace had some gadgets and it was reasonably priced. It was a hot walk and by he time dinner was over and dishwasher loaded I was beat!😺

This is an easy meal for a Sunday dinner for 4 or a romantic dinner for two.

You could easily make this for date night straighten your house and get dressed after work while it cooks . Add candlelight and a rose to the table serve the rest of the wine to drink!💋

Do you have a dish that sounds fancy but practically cooks itself?
