Cowboys and Bad boys~Oh Yeah! #MFRWauthor #blogchallenge #romance

Welcome to week  19 of the 52-week MFRW blog hop challenge.  The topic for this week is What is our perfect Romance Hero.

That is a real tough question for me as I don’t have a perfect one. My ideals change with my moods. This reflects in both my writing and reading material.

I guess my favorite is a Cowboy. I never seem to get tired of them. Whether is is a gentle, caring one saving his farm or raising some family members babies or starts out a royal pain in the butt ( these are my favorite I suppose) I like bad boys to redeem.

I also like Military men, special ops, bodyguards, firemen, and police. Bad boys rank high on my list as well. I like men they work hard yet have a soft spot under all that rough exterior. (ok erotica writers no chuckling.)

I also like chefs and blue-collar workers. I like men that work hard yet have a soft spot under all that hard exterior. (ok erotica writers no chuckling.)

Bad boys rank high on my list as well. I don’t know what it is about a bad boy but there is this invisible pull that leads me to them LOL. I guess I like the tough take no crap attitude, but we as authors can find their weakness and redeem them.

I fell in love with Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind and have loved bad boys ever since.

What is your favorite romance hero? Who was your first Romance Hero Crush?

Let’s go check out the other blogger’s favorite romance heroes.

Take a Peek Tuesday~Who wouldn’t want a hot cowboy best friend?

Welcome back to Take a Peek Tuesday.  This week I would like to introduce Caleb, Annie’s best friend. Who wouldn’t want a cowboy for a best friend? But is a friend all Caleb thinks Annie is?

Remember this is still rough and hasn’t been edited.

Annie

Seeing Caleb was quite a surprise. Several evenings a week we take out the horses. I’ll cook dinner, or he will take me out. No, we aren’t dating. He is my best friend in the world. Well, him and Vicki.  The three of us spend most weekends together after finishing our morning chores.

I told him the boys would be arriving today, and we wouldn’t be able to ride or go out tonight. I guess he is going to spend some alone time with Loverboy.

He greets me with our usual embrace. His rigid muscles alert me to the fact that he isn’t happy. I was expecting a confrontation with him. Just not today.

“Hey, Caleb.” I pull back from his hug. “Bad day at work?” I ask. Knowing the reason he is upset.

“Not a great one Annie. You know how I feel about you taking on these men. It’s not right for a single woman to have six single, young men in her home.”

‘What do you mean not right? We went over and over this when I decided to become a hostess.” I can’t understand why he is so against it. I appreciate how much he looks out for me, but sometimes he seems to forget we are only friends. Plus, capable of making my own decisions. His controlling nature is one reason we could never be more than friends.

“Not only does it look bad for you to be out here alone with six strange young men but it may not be safe. You know nothing about them.”

“Caleb, they are not ex-cons on parole. For that matter, they are only kids. Most of them the same age as David or Christopher. They are college boys trying to better themselves, on baseball scholarships and hoping to get picked in drafts. Having a home nearby is necessary for them. I also need some help out here. The place is starting to fall apart, and I can’t do some of the things.”

“I told you I would hire some construction people and get your house and barn fixed for you.”

Here we go again. Caleb is smothering me with his help.  I can’t seem to get it through his thick skull that I need to do this on my own.  He isn’t my husband. My husband is no longer here.

“ I told you I don’t want that. I can’t pay you back.” Sometimes I wonder if I should break our friendship so that he might move on with his life. I’m too selfish for that. I need Caleb. Only not the way he wants me to need him.

“I never said anything about payback. I promised Steve I would take care of you and the boys.” The sadness in his voice almost makes me change my mind. Almost.I look towards the barn. The thought of the young man inside makes me wonder if he is right. Maybe this is a big mistake. I can feel the change in the air.

“I am not a kid Caleb. I need to take care of this myself. This arrangement is a win-win for the boys and me. What are you doing here this early anyhow?” As if I had to ask.

“I always come out on Friday for our ride. And date.” He added. The seductive smile on his handsome face could melt steel off a locomotive. That must mean I’m stronger than a train engine.

“Caleb we aren’t dating. And I told you I couldn’t ride tonight.” I contemplate grabbing my egg basket I sat on his truck and making a run for it.

“I don’t see why not. These men are old enough to take care of themselves.” He leans back against his shiny, navy blue pickup, long, slim legs encased in tight designer jeans cross over his boots.

I am not a train engine. I give in. Partially.

“Perhaps it would be good for you to join us and meet the boys tonight. I’m planning a get to know each other session.”

“They are not boys Annie; They are not your sons or foster kids. They’re grown men. You need to get that through that thick, cute skull of yours.”

Exhaling in exasperation, he pushes himself upright. “Fine, I will join you.” Clenching his jaw and rubbing the back of his neck he concedes.

“I’m on my way in to clean up and put dinner on the table. It will be half an hour or so if you want to visit Loverboy.” Then I realize my mistake. TJ is in the barn, and with Caleb’s death glare when they met I can see issues already.

What do ya think?  Do you think Caleb may be trouble?

~Held Hostage by the Muse

Hi Y’all! I have a special friend visiting tomorrow so I thought I would do my Writerly Wednesday a day early. I had a post set to write-up, but I had a muse attack me the other night. Next week we may be Drafted. This week  I am talking about ideas and how they can come. The post may be short since I am having some respiratory issues and feel like crap.

This week  I am talking about ideas and how they can come from left field. I was watching TV with my husband and the Farmers Only .com commercial came on.  One of my muses whispered in my ear a secret title. I think this new idea could be a lot of fun. After talking to my friend Misty, I came up with a couple of names for a contemporary story. There will be cowboys!  While brainstorming my MM muse whispered in my other ear, wanting the story for himself. After a little more brainstorming I took my title and turned it into a world and may do two books.  There will be cowboys in both two entirely different stories.

I need my muses to help me with these rewrites and edits instead of bringing me new ideas so often. I can’t wait to write a fresh story. It has been a while. I still plan to finish Baseball Bats and Cowboy Hats and Simon Plus Two first.  After that, I think I will begin one of these.  I wrote the ideas down and can work on it on the weekends after my blog work is all done.

I’m not crazy, and I know muses are not real entities. Some authors don’t believe in muses at all wanting all the credit for themselves. Some authors have real muses like artists have. These can be friends husbands pets or whatever. Others, like myself like the imaginative muse that keeps us company finds us ideas and pushes us forward. I don’t think it matters what muse we use as long as we create fun, imaginative stories I think it’s all good!

Do you like cowboy stories? Which genre do you prefer M/F or M/M or both?  Do you have a muse?  I have many.

MY REVIEW

5 meows 2 purrs ( Low heat index)

Justin has been missing since he was 15 . His entire world he was living in since  the tragedy so many years ago is shattered when  he finds out it’s all lies to manipulate him and turn him into an assassin. Adam isn’t dead, but home living with his brother, though he still has amnesia. Shot and hurt he heads to the Crooked Tree to some old hidden miners shacks to die.

Sam is dealing with his own demons. Just returning from his grandma’s funeral he is hurt and raw. When he hears a noise in his  pantry and sees a trail of blood he realizes someone is hurt and hiding somewhere on the ranch. What he didn’t expect to find was Ethan’s missing brother and a man he couldn’t forget.

A Cowboy’s Home is a very angsty, sad story of Justin and Sam. I liked how Sam didn’t cower to Justin even under gunpoint and helped him even though he appeared dangerous. The emotions are extremely high as each character has to deal with his feelings about Justin’s return.

If you love feisty chefs, sexy, mysterious black ops, cowboys, police detectives, and a very good romance you will love this…though you really do need to read this series in order.

synopsis

unnamed (1)Spencer Quinn has an image to uphold. His family name means more than anything. It’s the reason the reason they’ve become the most successful stock contractor on the rodeo circuit. Fresh out of school, he’s ready to take over the family business. It’s no secret he’s attracted to men, and so far that hasn’t been a problem.

Until Evan.

The assertive friend who knows how to push every one of his buttons.

Evan Taylor is known for his love ‘em and leave ‘em style, yet the last few months have left him deflated and lonely. His father’s shadow wasn’t where he wanted to end up, but he’s having trouble finding happiness. Maybe because women can’t keep his attention. He’s losing hope of settling down until a blast from the past saunters by, his heart catches and tingles spread over his skin.

Of all people, Spencer. The one person who would never give Evan a second glance. It’s just his luck.

The old saying, “Bad luck is better than none at all” fits Evan perfectly. Or does it? Is his bad luck about to change? Will Spencer Quinn be a good luck charm instead?

review

3meows 2 Purrs( low heat)

Spencer has returned from college ready and is learning to take over his father’s business when he retires. Evan is ready for a change in his life. He just had a birthday and is tired of waking up with a different woman every day. He is unsatisfied and ready to find someone and decide his future, knowing he won’t be able to ride the rodeo forever. When Spencer shows up all grown up feelings come forth Evan didn’t know existed. Now he has to prove to Spencer and, SPencer’s brother which is his best friend that he can be the man Spencer needs , not some screwed up, playboy cowboy.

Reading the blurb, this story had so much promise. I love a good cowboy book, especially the rodeo, rough and tumble type. I was a little disappointed.  Don’t get me wrong. The book is very good. It is a perfect  sweet romance where the bad boy triess to change and win over the man he wants. There just was no real conflict or action to the story. I did enjoy it and am curious to see what book two holds.

If you like cowboys and a sweet romance you should like this.

I was given a free copy for an honest review.
