This week I have a contemporary western romance, Springs Delight by Kathleen Ball. I LOOOOOVE cowboys and boy was his one good!

Title: Spring’s Delight

Series: Cowboy Seasons  #4

Author: Kathleen Ball

Publisher: September 30th, 2015 by Forever Home (Previously Published in (2014)

The last thing cowboy Colt O’Malley needs is another busybody intent on curing him of his grief. Deeply bitter, Colt finds it almost impossible honoring his brother’s last act of kindness. Spring Reed grew up in the foster care system, and when she finally ages out, she relies on her protector and friend, Billy Jack to help them make a life together. To her horror, Billy becomes an abusive bully. Her rescuer arrives in the form of a coffee drinking, hard studying, college student, Caleb O’Malley. With a promise of a new job, he buys her a bus ticket from Texas to his family ranch in Montana with the plan to meet her there in a week. Unfortunately, no one met her. When Old Ed tries to drop Spring off at the O’Malley Ranch, Colt tells him to take her back. One glance at the pain in her eyes and he couldn’t send her away. She reminds her of the abused horses he rescues, and he had to try to honor Caleb’s wish. Can two people with scarred souls learn to love again or will bitterness and doubt drive them apart?

My Review

Five meows~~ Two purrs (low heat)

I loved this book. Yes, it is a series, and this is book 4. And Yes I went backward. Sorry, I guess my dyslexia kicked in.  I will say that it stands alone just fine. I followed the story without any issues. There are characters mentioned from the other three books, and I will soon read about them.

Spring’s delight begins on a sad note. Colt has just lost his brother Caleb in a terrible snowmobile accident.  Two weeks after the funeral, a young girl shows up saying Caleb offered her a job and gave her the ticket to get there.  Colt is shocked since he has no Idea what job and is barely scraping by as it is. But since Caleb sent her he and the weather is too bad to send her back right away he lets her stay. She cooks and cleans for room and board until Colt gets a chance to show her the books.

Spring has a sad past. Caleb had friended her when no-one else had.  She has no one to turn to and no place to go if Colt sends her away.

Spring’s Delight is a bittersweet story. Tough it has a sad note with Caleb’s death it is about dealing with grief and moving on. It is about starting fresh and finding love. I liked Spring. She is a feisty character and has lived through a lot at such a young age. I love how she handles Colt, a big, strong cowboy. I like Colt; he has a soft heart, and that contrasts with his big rough exterior. I also liked the supporting characters Biggs and Shady, the farm hands.

The storyline is interesting, though sad at times * you will need a box of tissues*. There is a bit of a twist, some drama as well as a slow building romance. It is not insta love. The sex is very mild and only one scene near the end. I found it the story fascinating, page-turning, and enjoyable.

If you like contemporary Westerns, Hot cowboys, feisty redhead, sadness, slow building love( no insta love here) and just a little sex this is the book for you…though  you may want to start with book one.

#snippetsunday~~Incoming hotness!

Hi,Y’all! It’s time for another Snippet Sunday. This week’s plans all went to the proverbial hell in a handbasket. I only got one scene worked through. I had all sorts of family and business stuff come up. The business one I may rant about later this week.  But I did get a little and would like you to meet TJ my sexy but young leading man and his best friend Simon.

Remember this is still a draft. It has not  seen professional eyes so please be easy on me…though if you see any big issues I would you to bring it to my attention. Just please be polite about it.

Chapter one~~ TJ

The ride to Bloomville Iowa seemed to take forever. After school was out, Simon  Beckner(do I need his last name here?Or let coach introduce him, later on, > invited me to go home with him. Not only has he been my roommate and best friend for the past three years, but he is also like a brother. I don’t know what I would do without him. His family treats me as one of their own. It was nice spending a week at Virginia Beach in their summer home, but man did it make for a long ride back to Iowa.

I jumped at the chance when Rick  Davidson,  Head Coach of the Edenfield Eagles, called with the offer to stay on a hobby farm if I would donate a couple of hours a day to some farm chores. Finding out our host had horses, I nearly screamed in extasy. I think I scared Simon half to death when I got that call. Not only do I get to play baseball in a prospect league with an opportunity of draft, I finally get to work on a real farm.  It’s like a double dream come true.

Later that day Simon got the same offer. I was overjoyed. Playing ball, working with horses and my best friend. I couldn’t ask for more.  There is supposed to be a total of six of us staying at the same farm. Having so many men in one place could be interesting.

So what do you think about my leading man TJ and his best buddy? Do you like switching views or is it too confusing?

Snippet Sunday

Hi, Y’all! It’s time for Snippet Sunday again. It’s  already the end of February!  I can’t believe  how fast the month has went by. This week I am still working on second draft of Baseball Bats and Cowboy hats. Some of you may remember this from back in November. I tried to pick different snippets, but if they overlap these should be a lot smoother since I have run a grammar check and have been adding in stuff and taking stuff out. This is further down in the first section of chapter one where you finally meet the leading man.

This is still a rough draft and the only eyes on it has been mine… so remember this is a diamond in the rough please be kind.

The four that had already arrived headed to Rick’s  van unpacked their belongings and began tossing the ball around.

Rick glanced at hs watch. “I told them to be here by 11. I came a little early to make sure you still wanted to do this.”

“Oh yes.” Watching the boys playing ball and laughing lightened my heart.  I have no doubt in my mind that that this is the right decision.

Rick pulled a thick file out of his briefcase. I motioned for us to sit on the porchswing. Thankfully it was partially shady this time of the morning.

‘Here is a copy of the paperwork with all the agreements and signatures. You are not required to pay for any personal items, only to provide basic meals such as breakfast and lunch. When we have a game, the sponsors provide a light meal beforehand, and if we are on the road, we stop and get pizza or burgers on the way home. You won’t be required to wait up or cater to them.  None of these guys have any allergies. One is vegetarian. If that’s an issue I can  try to find another placement for him”.

“No, I think I can handle that, Rick. I usually make plenty of side-dishes and keep fresh vegetables handy.  There should be plenty with the garden coming off.” I couldn’t imagine turning  one of them down at this point over an eating preference, Both of my boys were picky. David only liked meat and potatoes. Stephen preferred casseroles and main dishes made with ground beef. Stephen also loved a lot of fruits and veggies.

In the distance, we could hear music blasting as a silver SUV came down the lane. A tall, sandy-haired young man climbed out of the driver’s seat and walked over to us.

“Hi, I’m Simon. Sorry if we are late. I thought we had plenty of time.” He chewed on his lower lip and stared down at the gravel.

“No Simon you’re not late. I came early to go over the terms of the agreement. Sit your bags on the porch and join the others.”

Simon popped the hatch with his key-fob. Rushing to the passenger side, he whispered to the other man that was still sitting in the car. He had the seat laid back as if he were napping. He jumped, startled, slowly emerged stretching languidly before joining Simon at the rear of the car. Simon wheeled two suitcases to where the other bags lay. He took out his glove and slowly joined the other men.

He seemed to be a little more laid back and reserved than the others.

Then the last one bounded from behind the vehicle with two duffles and a  bag of sports equipment.  His strong biceps are bulging under the weight, yet he trotted over to us, a bundle of energy packed into a tight pair of jeans a shirt stretch tight around his muscular frame and a cowboy hat on his head. He dropped the bags with the others, bounds back over to us shakes Rick’s hand then takes mine into both of his holding them securely.

“ It sure is kind of you to let us stay here in your lovely home. Coach didn’t tell us our hostess is such a beauty” He lifts my hands up to his full lips and lightly brushes them with a kiss. “Oh, I am TJ. By the way.”

“Down Casanova. Get your butt over there with the others. You’re here to play ball not charm all the women you meet!”  Rick rolls his eyes as he playfully punches TJ on the arm.I stood there mesmerized by the cutest boy—young man I’ve ever seen in years. Broad shoulders, big brown eyes and wild curly hair that’s a little too long. His handsome face in need of a shave. He would be my dream man—if only he were 20 years older.
