Mom and Daughter Duo takeover! #awriterslife #spring #mmromance

Welcome to a writer’s life where I invite other authors to share with us writing tips, tricks, woes and WIPs (Works in Progress or upcoming release). This week V.L. Locey and Stephanie Locey, a mom and daughter duo take over the world…well just my little page of it.

Hello Vicki and Steph!  Can you believe it’s already April? The year seems to be flying by.

V.L. – I know! Seems we just had Christmas and now it’s Easter.

Steph- It’s about time! Spring never comes soon enough.

Cat: Are you ready for Spring?

V.L. – More than ready! We’re still running our heater at night up here in the mountains of Pennsylvania.

Steph – Absolutely. I’m ready for work to let out for the summer.

Cat: Easter is coming. Will you celebrate? (If so, include how such as dying eggs Easter hunts big family meal)

V.L. – We do celebrate by having a small family dinner. I think Steph dyed eggs this year!

Steph – My boyfriend and I dyed eggs and ate a bunch of ham!

Cat: This month I wanted to discuss things you have found helpful on your writing journey. Who is your target customer? For non-writer readers that is Who will be most likely to buy our books.

V.L. – Well, I write for those people who love gay romance with a good amount of angst, humor, and sex as my heroes work at finding that HFN or HEA.

Steph – My target customers are college-age people. I want to tell romances that connect to millennials.

Cat: Have you used any new tools or applications recently that have helped improve your workflow?

V.L. – Nope. I’m a pretty basic sort of author. It’s just me and a Word document. Luckily my workflow is good as I write fulltime and can crank out 2-3 K per day, seven days a week.

Steph- I use a notebook to think of chapter titles and plan the flow of stories. My desk at home is covered in notes jotted down on the back of my work receipts.

Cat: Do you try to accomplish any work while travelling?

V.L. – I don’t as a rule but I do take my laptop in case I’m motivated to write down ideas or inspirational thoughts. Travelling usually inspires me a great deal so I like to have a device at hand to jot things down as they pop into my head.

Steph- If I have an idea while I travel, I write it in the memos of my phone. I try not to take any work-related things with me, as I view traveling as a mental health break.

Cat: Do you have an assistant or assistants? What do they do for you?

V.L. – I do. Her name is Rachel and she keeps me on track and as sane as it is possible to be. Truly, I’d be lost without her.

Steph – I can’t afford Microsoft Office most of the time, so no, an assistant isn’t really my style.

Cat: What helpful books have you read recently?

V.L. – I don’t really read how-to write books as they seem to all be far more structured than my organic writers spirit can handle. Most of my reading is fiction peppered with a few autobiographies of people I admire.

Steph – I read a lot of fan-fiction. And I’ve been constructing D&D campaigns.

Cat: What helps you to be creative?

V.L. – Oh gosh, just life. My mind is always spinning yarns so, for me, the trick is to separate the wheat from the chaff as it were. I have to find the good ideas among all the crappy ones and see if I can shine them up a bit.

Steph – Mythology. I like taking ancient concepts and spinning them into a modern world, so magic and real life influence me quite a bit.

Cat: Have you changed the way you work over the years? If so, how?

V.L. – Not really. I’m a firm believer in discipline, so I’m in my chair and writing by 8 am every day and I write until 11 or so, take a break and then come back to it to either crank out more words or do admin work. That routine works well for me so there’s no need to change it. If it ain’t broke, as they say!

Steph – I only have a few months out of the year when I can devote my full time to writing, and this is my first book, so I don’t really have a routine yet.

Cat: What book are you here to share with us today?

Love is a Walk in the Park
By V.L. Locey & Stephanie Locey
Cover Art: Designs by Sloan
MM Contemporary Romance

Sullivan Haines knows exactly what he wants out of life. Fame as a Broadway dancer and to find the man of his dreams. Sadly, his love life is a dismal mess, his roommate is PMS personified, and working at a dingy dance studio teaching old people how to tango and foxtrot is not exactly the bright lights. Actually, life in the Big Apple is pretty rotten, until he and his dog run into tall, dark, and oh-so-handsome Duane Hart in the park. Their pooches hit it right off, but can the two men find romance along the park’s winding paths?

Duane Hart hasn’t had a lot go right in his life. His girlfriend recently broke up with him, taking everything that wasn’t nailed down or in his roommate’s name. Well, everything except the Yorkshire terrier that he didn’t want to get in the first place, and that she now refuses to take back. However, when he meets a handsome stranger and his pit bull in the dog park, will the blooming heat in his chest be able to convince him to start dating again? Or will fate prove love isn’t a walk in the park, after all?

V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, a flock of assorted goofy domestic fowl, and a Jersey steer.

When not writing spicy romances, she enjoys spending her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in hand. She can also be found online on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, GoodReads, her website and her blog:
